Democrat Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has a huge problem on her hands.
Willis’ office is now subject to an investigation.
And Fani Willis got some bad news that will leave her a nervous wreck.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan announced an investigation into Willis’ hiring of special prosecutor Nathan Wade in the Trump witch hunt following the bombshell allegations Willis hired Wade after the two engaged in a romantic relationship and that they violated honest services fraud laws when Wade used some of the $654,000 Willis paid him to fund the couple’s luxury vacations.
In his letter to Wade, Jordan explained that the federal government paid Willis’ office $14.6 million in grants over the last four years and Congress wanted to know if taxpayer money ended up in Wade’s pocket due to questionable billing practices such as Wade claiming he worked 24 hours in one day.
“The FCDAO reportedly compensated you using a concoction of comingled funds, including monies confiscated or seized by the FCDAO and monies directed from Fulton County’s ‘general’ fund. The Committee has information that the FCDAO received approximately $14.6 million in grant funds from the Department of Justice between 2020 and 2023 and, given the enormous legal fees you have billed to the FCDAO, there are open questions about whether federal funds were used by the FCDAO to finance your prosecution. In fact, on one day—November 5, 2021—you billed taxpayers for 24 hours of legal work, attesting that you worked all day and night without break on a politically motivated prosecution,” Jordan’s letter stated.
Jordan also requested information on Wade’s collusion with the January 6 committee.
Critics contend that Wade and Willis used documents and records handed over by the January 6 committee as a way to hide evidence from Donald Trump and his co-defendants’ lawyers by not having to turn them over as part of the discovery process.
“A recent news report corroborates your coordination with partisan Democrats, explaining that you and FCDAO staff ‘quietly met’ with the partisan January 6 Committee, which allowed you to review information they had gathered. Politico reported that the partisan January 6 Committee provided Ms. Willis’s prosecution a ‘boost’ as she prepared to convene a special grand jury and even ‘helped prosecutors prepare for interviews with key witnesses.’ The same article suggests that the partisan January 6 Committee provided you access to records it withheld from other law-enforcement entities and even other Members of Congress,” Jordan added.
From the get-go, Donald Trump declared Willis’ charges against him for contesting the results of the 2020 election to be corrupt and partisan.
Trump likely had no idea how right he really was.
