Adam Schiff is looking to take a major step up in his career.
There’s just a single obstacle standing in his way now.
Nancy Pelosi is giving a Senate endorsement to Adam Schiff on one condition.
Democrats are pressuring California Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), who at 89 is the oldest sitting senator, to retire. Even though she hasn’t yet announced retirement the field is already getting crowded.
U.S. Representatives Adam Schiff and Katie Porter have announced their candidacies, and Barbara Lee is expected to join them soon.
Despite his numerous scandals, Schiff has already snagged a major endorsement.
California Rep. Nancy Pelosi said she would endorse Democratic Rep. Schiff’s Senate bid on condition that Feinstein chooses not to run again in 2024.
If Feinstein decides not to run, “I will be supporting House Intelligence Committee chair Adam Schiff, who knows well the nexus between a strong democracy and a strong economy,” Pelosi said in a statement Thursday. “In his service in the House, he has focused on strengthening our democracy with justice and on building an economy that works for all.”
“Ever since I supported Adam in his race for Congress in 2000, I have known his commitment to putting the American Dream in place for everyone,” Pelosi said in her statement first given to the San Francisco Chronicle. “Coming from a family of immigrants, Adam has dedicated his life to public service. Every time I have asked Adam to take on the tough fight against extremist forces, he has responded with integrity, strength and success.”
The fact that Pelosi is publicly making the endorsement is a sign by many that Feinstein will retire, along with the fact that she raised less than $600 in the last three months and has under $10,000 in her campaign account according to The Hill.
This endorsement comes mere weeks after Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) kicked Schiff off the House Intelligence Committee due to his lies to the American people, in particular in regards to the investigations related to former President Donald Trump.
“I cannot put partisan loyalty ahead of national security, and I cannot simply recognize years of service as the sole criteria for membership on this essential committee. Integrity matters more,” McCarthy said.
“As such, in order to maintain a standard worthy of this committee’s responsibilities, I am hereby rejecting the appointments of Representative Adam Schiff and Representative Eric Swalwell to serve on the Intelligence Committee,” McCarthy added.
But this scandal is not expected to hurt Schiff’s chances of election in California, in fact Schiff is positioning himself as the more moderate of the two other Democrats expected to be on the primary ballot. However there are only insignificant differences in the voting records.
