Donald Trump has all but wrapped up the GOP presidential nomination.
That just leaves one box left to check.
And Donald Trump let Laura Ingraham in on one secret about his VP selection.
At a Fox News town hall event in South Carolina, Donald Trump confirmed to Laura Ingraham that six names are on his shortlist to be his running mate.
They are Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, former Hawaii Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, and Florida Congressman Byron Donalds.
“Are they all on your shortlist?” Ingraham asked after reading off that list of names.
“They are,” Trump responded. “Honestly all of those people are good. They’re all good, they’re all solid.”
Trump then pointed to Scott – who was in attendance since the event was in his home state and he endorsed Trump for president – and jokingly said Scott was a better campaigner for Trump than he was for himself during his brief presidential run.
“A lot of people are talking about that gentleman right over there,” Trump stated. “He’s been such a great advocate. I have to say this in a very positive way, Tim Scott, he has been much better for me than he was for himself. I watched his campaign, and he doesn’t like talking about himself. But boy does he talk about Trump. … I called him and I said, ‘Tim, you’re better for me than you were for yourself.’”
Conservatives don’t really want to see Scott as the VP.
Scott went woke in tanking two of Trump’s judicial nominees by playing the race card and attacking the police following George Floyd’s death.
Scott is also a relic of the John McCain/Mitt Romney GOP with his unyielding support for a blank check to fund border security in America.
Conservatives would likely be pleased with any of the other names on Trump’s list as Noem and DeSantis made a name for themselves by rejecting Dr. Fauci’s COVID tyranny.
Donalds is a next-generation MAGA star who made his name in Congress opposing Kevin McCarthy’s election as speaker of the House and doing everything in his power to throw sand in the gears of the swamp’s attempt to fund Joe Biden’s government.
Ramaswamy broke out during the presidential campaign by exposing Nikki Haley as a pro-BLM warmonger who said all Americans needed to suffer for the death of George Floyd and would commit unlimited American treasure to the debacle in Ukraine.
Gabbard became a favorite of conservatives by quitting the Democrat Party following her failed 2020 presidential campaign.
Gabbard emerged as a major critic of the woke push to say men can be women and to censor conservative speech online.
Tucker Carlson also picked Gabbard – who served in the Iraq War – to guest host his show because she shares Carlson and Trump’s opposition to the war in Ukraine.
Trump also reportedly recently met with Gabbard to discuss how to make sure conservatives fill the ranks of the Pentagon in a second Trump term.
DeSantis, Donalds, Gabbard, Noem and Ramaswamy would all help Trump appeal to either suburban women or minority voters – whom polls show drifting away from the Democrat Party – in the general election.
Donald Trump will have a wide selection of potential running mates to choose from.
There is no reason to select a Mitt Romney-style Republican like Tim Scott.
