Fox News viewers still cannot get a straight answer from the network about firing Tucker Carlson.
One rumor seemed more plausible than others.
And an insider spilled the beans on his connection to Fox News firing Tucker Carlson.
Right before Fox News fired Tucker Carlson, Dan Bongino announced he was leaving Fox News after not being able to agree on a new contract.
Many in the media speculated that Fox News fired Bongino and Carlson because they were two Pro-Trump hosts that would not play ball with new editorial mandates to position Fox News as more pro-Ron DeSantis in the 2024 GOP primary.
Others speculated that Fox News jettisoned the two popular hosts as collateral damage from the $787 million settlement with Dominion over defamation claims involving the 2020 election.
On Megyn Kelly’s podcast Bongino cleared the air and said he left Fox News of his own volition and his exit had nothing to do with Tucker Carlson’s firing.
“I think a lot of people think this may be some kind of anti-Trump thing. I gotta say — that wasn’t my case,” Bongino told Kelly.
Bongino said his departure was an irreconcilable difference between him and Fox News over what his show should look like.
Fox News wanted Bongino to film his show live to tape on Saturday for when it broadcasts so the show could cover the breaking news in the 2024 campaign.
Bongino preferred to film the show on Fridays because he wanted to spend the weekends with his young children.
“They wanted the show. I just had a different vision for my role at the network and that’s okay. I’m not the Saturday guy, Megyn, I’m sorry I can’t work six days a week. I’ve got young kids and I’m not working six days a week. And even though we recorded the show on Friday, you know, the inside baseball of Fox, what happens when there’s breaking news? Which with Trump out there is all the time — you gotta be on,” Bongino added.
Bongino said he agreed with Fox News management that he could be difficult to work with, but that the success of his podcast and other online ventures allowed him to walk away from Fox News.
“I was in a position with them where I could walk away from a show on Fox and say, ‘I’m sorry, that’s not my vision.’ And it’s different. But someone told me later that, you know, in the end, they weren’t that eager the last few weeks to make this thing work because, ‘you could be a little aggravating to work with’ and they’re not wrong,” Bongino concluded.
