Pope Leo and President Trump find themselves in a nasty feud.
Their battle has just launched into the next level.
And that’s because the Pope said two bombshell words to Trump that no one saw coming.
Pope Leo is a vocal critic of the war against Iran.
Leo recently said that “The Gospel is very clear, ‘Blessed are the peacemakers,’” and urged the United States, Israel, and Iran to find “ways of building bridges for peace and reconciliation.”
Trump fired back on Truth Social, slamming Pope Leo as “weak on crime and terrible for foreign policy.”
Pope Leo responded to Trump when he spoke to reporters aboard his plane during a trip to Algeria, declaring that he has “no fear” of Trump or speaking out against the war, saying he was only communicating the message of the Gospel.
Leo argued he wasn’t a politician, so he didn’t deal in foreign policy in the same manner as Trump, but rather he saw it as his duty to speak the Gospel’s message of peace.
“I have no fear of the Trump administration or speaking out loudly about the message of the Gospel, which is what I believe I am here to do, what the Church is here to do. We are not politicians. We don’t deal with foreign policy with the same perspective he might understand it, but I do believe in the message of the Gospel, as a peacemaker,” Leo stated.
Leo went on to say that it wasn’t his intention to debate Trump about the war.
“I think that the people who read will be able to draw their own conclusions: I am not a politician, I have no intention of entering into a debate with him. Rather, let us always seek peace and put an end to wars. I am not afraid of the Trump administration. I speak about the Gospel, I am not a politician,” Leo added.
Leo went on to say that he took issue with anyone who claimed God would support the war, that it was justified by Christian beliefs, and that the Gospel’s message was one of peace.
“I do not think the message of the Gospel should be abused in the way some people are doing. I will continue to speak out loudly against war, to try to promote peace, and multilateral dialogue between states in order to seek the right solution to problems. The message of the Church is the message of the Gospel, blessed are the peacemakers; I do not see my role as that of a politician, I do not want to enter into a debate with him. Too many people are suffering in the world,” Leo concluded.
The Catholic Church’s beliefs on war are very consistent, as all Popes spoke out against war.
Pope John Paul II, the most famous modern Pope, opposed the Iraq War.
But even many Catholics who agree with Leo on the war question why he never vocally condemns the left with the same ferocity over their positions on abortion, homosexual marriage, and transgenderism, which all also run afoul of the Bible.
