A RINO from the past is once again haunting President Trump.
Former Speaker of the House Paul Ryan is back.
And Paul Ryan declared war on Trump with this lunatic attack on live TV.
Paul Ryan quit Congress just ahead of the 2018 midterm elections.
Ryan’s resignation served as a death blow to the GOP’s chances in the midterm election since Ryan’s position as Speaker of the House meant that his quitting before the vote sent a demoralizing signal to GOP voters that their leaders believed the cause was hopeless.
Even in Congress, Ryan was a pro-open-borders RINO and supporter of globalist trade deals who fought President Trump on building the wall and renegotiating so-called “free” trade deals that shipped American jobs overseas.
Ryan then refused to support Trump in 2024 and wrongly predicted that nominating Trump would doom the GOP to defeat.
Despite spending the Trump era getting everything wrong on politics and policy, Ryan is still floating around hoping for a return to the Mitt Romney-era GOP he helped shape.
In an interview on CNBC’s Squawk Box, Ryan attacked Trump-era politics as “unserious” because the national debt reached $40 trillion.
“I am surprised. What is frustrating is that the Overton window in our politics is open for all these crazy ideas but closed for things like debt reduction. So our politics are just fundamentally unserious right now, and they used to be better, frankly. When I was budget chair — in the early 2000s, in the ’10s — I passed four budgets that paid off the debt, that balanced the budget, that reformed Medicare and Medicaid, and all of these things. And no one lost their seats over those votes,” Ryan stated.
When Paul Ryan served in Congress, the national debt ballooned from $5.6 trillion in 1999 to over $22 trillion in 2019, in part due to Ryan voting for the nearly trillion-dollar TARP bailout, the endless wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and at least 5 debt ceiling increases.
Ryan also falsely claimed to have passed balanced budgets as Chair of the House Budget Committee.
“Out of Congress, we passed out of the House these budgets that did this. And today, you can’t get that done,” Ryan added.
“What changed? What happened?” Co-host Becky Quick asked.
And as usual, Ryan then blamed Donald Trump for transforming the GOP into a working-class populist conservative party for the debt.
“Our politics changed. We became populist; both parties are populist parties. Grievance politics, I would argue, is mostly what is being pushed. But we became populist parties with populist beliefs. Things like debt reduction and entitlement reform are unpopular. Therefore, we don’t have anything close to the politics we need to get this stuff done,’ Ryan went on to say.
Ryan served as Speaker of the House for the first two years of Donald Trump’s first term.
The GOP controlled the Senate during this time as well.
If debt reduction was so near and dear to Ryan’s heart, he held a position of power in the unified GOP government to take serious action.
But Ryan didn’t because Ryan’s real passion is amnesty for illegal aliens.
And Ryan is carping now at the debt under Trump to look like he is attacking Trump from the right, so he and other GOP establishmentarians can try and sneak a pro-amnesty candidate to the nomination in the 2028 GOP Presidential Primary.
