The latest John Fetterman dust-up is tearing the Democrat Party apart.
Fetterman moved past the point of no return.
And what John Fetterman did to another Democrat will leave you speechless.
Fetterman upped the ante in his feud with New Jersey Democrat Senator Bob Menendez.
Federal prosecutors indicted Menendez, his wife, and three businessmen on bribery charges.
Prosecutors later hit Menendez with charges that he acted as an unregistered agent of the Egyptian government when he meddled in a criminal investigation and passed along sensitive information about the U.S. Embassy in Cairo.
Menendez declared his intention to run for re-election in 2024 which horrified Democrats as party leaders believed Menendez running for re-election during a criminal trial would put Menendez’s normally safe Senate seat at risk.
Fetterman took it upon himself to lead the charges to force Menendez out by introducing a resolution for the Senate to expel the New Jersey Democrat.
No other Democrats bit on that as elected officials are loath to establish a precedent they could one day be held to.
So, Fetterman shifted gears introducing a resolution decreeing that if any senator faced indictment for mishandling classified intelligence or acting as an unregistered agent of a foreign government they would lose access to classified briefings, be stripped of all committee assignments, and lose the right to request earmarks or use government funds for overseas travel.
Fetterman never named Menendez in his resolution, but it was clear who it was aimed at as Fetterman meant to not single out Menendez as inducement for his colleagues to jump on board.
The resolution wouldn’t officially expel Menendez, but it would so neuter his power that it would be pointless for him to continue on as he couldn’t offer constituents anything in a re-election bid.
Fetterman claimed this was about some high-minded principle of accountability.
“It’s important to make a statement and to force people to come down on: Is it appropriate for a man who’s been accused of acting as a foreign agent [to be] receiving [that] kind of classified briefings,” Fetterman claimed.
“It’s astonishing to me how anyone would be okay with that,” Fetterman added.
Menendez fired right back blasting Fetterman’s move as a “stunt.”
“This is nothing more than a publicity stunt that disregards core constitutional principles of American democracy — due process, the presumption of innocence, and the rule of law. Instead of focusing on generating clickbait, he should channel his efforts toward legislating and delivering results for the people of Pennsylvania,” Menendez declared.
But just to make sure no one missed the point that the real purpose of this entire enterprise had nothing to do with ethics and everything to do with politics, Fetterman cited Menendez’s poll numbers as the reason for him to head for the exits.
“Spicy. The latest polling in New Jersey has your approval at 8%. You’re officially less popular than cold sores,” Fetterman posted on X.
