Fox News wasn’t initially on board with Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign.
Trump even feuded with the network.
And now Fox News presented Donald Trump with one choice that hit him like a gut punch.
Fox News founder Rupert Murdoch tried to exile Donald Trump from the GOP.
Murdoch blamed Trump for the GOP’s disappointing performance in the 2022 midterms claiming Trump endorsed bad candidates who lost winnable races.
Following the midterms Murdoch reportedly told Trump that Fox News and the rest of his media empire – Murdoch also owns the New York Post and the Wall Street Journal – would no longer support him for president.
And just to show Murdoch meant business, Fox News banned Donald Trump from the airwaves for almost seven months.
Murdoch is a globalist Republican who strongly supports a blank check for the war in Ukraine and amnesty for illegal aliens.
Mitt Romney, Liz Cheney and Paul Ryan are more Murdoch’s speed.
Rupert Murdoch only tolerates Trump’s America First agenda because he knows his audiences support Trump.
But if Murdoch can’t influence the GOP to nominate a candidate in the establishment mold then Murdoch will settle for the next best thing.
And that’s using his network to pressure Trump to pick an establishment-friendly running mate with the full knowledge that whomever Trump selects to fill out the ticket in 2024 starts 2028 as the front-runner for the nomination.
“What I find fascinating from what we just watched, is, that was him showing, ‘I have chops to be your VP,’” former Trump White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany declared after playing a video of Tim Scott during a recent episode of “Outnumbered.” “Because, in addition to winning over independents, winning over suburban moms, the VP pick must be someone who is the most effective voice for Donald Trump as he is embattled in these court battles. He just proved he can handle that.”
Co-host Emily Compagno doubled down.
“What I thought this illustrated so beautifully, is that Donald Trump has surrounded himself not with facsimile robots, but with independent thinkers that are committed to the ideals and values of conservatism and the Republican Party. It just goes to show for me the brand versus party, and the brand versus values that the GOP is constantly fighting against the Democrats about,” Compagno began.
“And what I mean by that is, every time you put a surrogate for Biden up, they say the same, ‘Biden is great and everything is fine.’ It’s over-simplified, it’s over-generalized, it’s, honestly, it’s not thoughtful. They are facsimiles of each other because they have the brand down,” Compagno continued.
Whoever wins the nomination theoretically sets the policy agenda for the party and Fox News is relentlessly promoting South Carolina Senator Tim Scott to be Trump’s vice-presidential selection.
Scott is winning the Fox News primary for VP precisely because he lines up with Murdoch on support for Ukraine and his willingness to play woke identity politics.
During Trump’s first term Scott destroyed two of Trump’s conservative judicial nominees using the card to smear them as bigots.
Scott also led negotiations with Democrats following the death of George Floyd to put Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer in charge of police standards in America.
And a Tim Scott-led Republican Party is apparently what Rupert Murdoch wants to see in 2028.
