Tucker Carlson was all set to make a big splash in the 2024 GOP presidential primary.
Then everything changed.
And that’s because Tucker Carlson just learned this tragic news that will turn everything upside down.
Evangelical Christians dominate the Iowa Caucuses.
And a marquee event to court evangelicals was thrown for a loop.
This year the Iowa Caucuses are taking on an outsized role in the GOP presidential primary because of Donald Trump.
Polls show Donald Trump lapping the field.
But Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and his campaign are going all-in to win the caucuses in an attempt to pierce Trump’s armor of invulnerability.
Anti-Trump forces within the GOP believe that if DeSantis can beat Trump in Iowa then the party will rally around DeSantis the way Democrats coalesced around Joe Biden to stop Bernie Sanders in 2020.
DeSantis courting evangelical Christians is central to that goal.
And the first big event of the 2024 campaign is the Iowa Family Leadership Summit where Tucker Carlson will interview several Republican contenders about the issues near and dear to evangelicals’ hearts.

But one big-name GOP candidate will not appear.
Iowa Family Leader CEO and President Bob Vander Plaats announced that he received word that Donald Trump will not attend.
I learned last night that @realDonaldTrump will NOT attend our Leadership Summit this Friday. Thus, our lineup is set: @votetimscott @AsaHutchinson @Mike_Pence @NikkiHaley @VivekGRamaswamy and @RonDeSantis will have visionary, one on one, discussion with @TuckerCarlson #FLS23…

Donald Trump is also likely to skip the first GOP presidential debate as Trump believes he should not give equal footing to candidates that are 30 and 40 points behind him in the polls.
Trump may be taking that mentality towards the Family Leadership Summit.
Vander Plaats is also an outspoken Trump opponent.
In 2016 Vander Plaats endorsed Ted Cruz for president.
And Vander Plaats used the hashtag #ChooseWell2024 as an implied shot that GOP voters need to pick DeSantis as Vander Plaats believes Trump cannot win a general election.
Donald Trump retains a deep reservoir of support in Iowa.
Will it be enough to overcome not attending this event?
