New York Attorney General Letitia James thought she was going to deliver Donald Trump the most humiliating defeat of his life.
But at the last minute, Donald Trump got the reprieve he was looking for.
And Donald Trump hit Letitia James with a nasty curveball that was the worst news ever.
A New York appeals court showed it had very little patience with the political witch hunt that James and Democrat Judge Arthur Engoron launched against Trump with this farcical civil fraud lawsuit.
Judge Engoron required Trump to post a $464 million bond to stop James from seizing his properties and selling them off to collect on a civil fraud judgment Engoron hit Trump with in a case where there were no victims, no criminal charges and no one lost money.
Engoron set that bond knowing no company would dare risk nearly half a billion dollars on Trump’s appeal and – as expected – Trump’s lawyers informed the court it was impossible for him to secure the bond.
But the appeals court stepped in just before the deadline when James was set to begin foreclosing on Trump’s properties and lowered the bond to $175 million.
Trump reported that he secured the bond which meant James couldn’t begin to collect on the judgment until Trump exhausted his appeals.
“I’ve just posted a 175 Million Dollar Bond with the sadly failing and very troubled State of New York, based on a Corrupt Judge and Attorney General who used a Statute that was never used for this before, where no Jury was allowed, my financial statements were conservative and had a 100% perfect caution/non-reliance clause, there were no victims (except me!), there was no crime or damage, there was only success and HAPPY BANKS. The case was a fabricated ELECTION INTERFERENCE con job, so bad for New York, where businesses are fleeing & violent crime is flourishing,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
The political nature of this case was so blatant that the appeals court was forced to step in and rebuke Engoron with the massive reduction in the bond Trump was required to post.
Trump blasted the bogus nature of this case which was clearly a rigged show trial from the word go as Engoron ruled Trump a fraud before the trial even started.
“The Crooked Judge, to suit his narrative, valued Mar-a-Lago, in Palm Beach, Florida, at $18,000,000, when it is worth 50 to 100 times that amount. He ruled I was guilty before he ever saw the case. He should be disbarred, and Letitia James, who campaigned on getting TRUMP, Impeached. Also posted a 91 Million Dollar Bond on another New York Fake Case, money I can’t use on my campaign. Just what Crooked Joe wanted. WITCH HUNT!” Trump concluded.
Trump’s best hope in this case always rested on his ability to appeal and move this case out of the partisan trial courts of New York City where judges are elected and Engoron counts on the votes of Democrats to stay on the bench.
And in the first round of the appeal process, victory went to Trump.
