Trump supporters rejoiced when the Senate confirmed Judge Jeanine Pirro as the Assistant US Attorney for Washington, D.C.
But Pirro just put everything at risk.
And that’s because Judge Jeanine found herself in hot water because of one terrible mistake.
Donald Trump promised to restore law and order if Americans re-elected him.
And in President Trump’s first year in office, the murder rate dropped to its lowest level since 1900.
Jeanine Pirro appeared on Martha MacCallum’s Fox News show to take a victory lap and argue that P: resident Trump’s law and order agenda delivered results.
But that’s when Pirro stepped on a landmine.
In hailing the drop in crime in D.C., Pirro claimed the Trump administration would arrest anyone who carried a firearm in the district.
“And you bring a gun into the district, you mark my words, you’re going to jail,” Pirro exclaimed. “I don’t care if you have a license in another district, and I don’t care if you are a law-abiding gun owner somewhere else, you bring a gun into this district, count on going to jail, and hope you get the gun back — and that makes all the difference.”’
One of the conservative movement’s major victories was the 2008 D.C. v. Heller case, in which the Supreme Court struck down D.C.’s handgun ban and recognized the right to keep and bear arms as a fundamental right for the first time.
Pirro’s comments sounded like those of a gun-grabbing Democrat.
And just as surprising was MacCallum cheering on Pir,ro claiming the Trump administration would arrest Americans simply for carrying a firearm.
“Yeah, it’s amazing how accountability works,” MacCallum declared. “When people think that if they actually get arrested, they might have to do time, and they might be taken off the street, it sort of puts a little different message in people’s heads.”
The backlash rolled in.
Florida Congressman Greg Steube dared Pirro to “come and take it” because he legally carried his firearm in Florida and D.C.
“I bring a gun into the district every week, @USAttyPirro. I have a license in Florida and DC to carry. And I will continue to carry to protect myself and others,” Stuebe posted on X.
Pirro attempted damage control since defending the Second Amendment is a core Trump administration priority.
“Let me be clear: I am a proud supporter of the Second Amendment,” Pirro began.
But then Pirro made matters worse by misstating D.C.’s firearms laws.
“Washington, D.C. law requires handguns to be licensed in the District with the Metropolitan Police Department to be carried into our community,” Pirro added.
“We are focused on individuals who are unlawfully carrying guns and will continue building on that momentum to keep our communities safe,” Pirro continued.
D.C. requires residents who keep guns at home to register all firearms and ammunition.
But D.C. does allow for nonresidents to obtain a carry permit.
And Pirro also appeared to defend D.C.’s unconstitutional refusal to recognize concealed carry permits from other states and acted like Americans with carry permits from elsewhere were criminal threats to public safety.
