Jim Jordan isn’t messing around.
The House Judiciary Committee chairman had a lump of coal to deposit in Jack Smith’s stocking.
And Jim Jordan hit Jack Smith with a nasty curveball that will leave him in ruins.
Republican outrage over Jack Smith’s politically motivated persecutions of Donald Trump is reaching a boiling point.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan sent a letter to Smith requesting he turn over documents relating to any communications with the Biden Justice Department about his prosecutions of Donald Trump, the roster of prosecutors he hired, and any records and documents about the job postings for Smith’s team and how he hired his staff.
Jordan’s request took on added urgency when reports surfaced that Smith subpoenaed Twitter for the accounts of every American who liked one of Donald Trump’s tweets, commented on one of Trump’s tweets or shared one of Trump’s posts.
“To compound our existing concerns about the actions of our office, we recently learned that you had compelled from Twitter voluminous amounts of private information — including core political speech — of millions of Americans, without an apparent specialized nexus to criminal activity. Accordingly, the Committee is conducting oversight in order to inform potential legislative reforms, including possible reforms regarding politically motivated prosecutions of current and former Presidents by federal prosecutors and disclosure requirements for Special Counsels and their staff,” Jordan’s letter read.
Smith put together an enemies list of millions of Trump supporters that now sits at the disposal of the weaponized Biden Justice Department which already put one Trump supporter in jail for posting memes making fun of Hillary Clinton during the 2016 election.
Jordan’s letter to Smith outlined his concerns with his thuggish conduct both in the past and in this case.
“You have a record of attempting to criminalize political discourse, as evidenced by your reported interest in how the Justice Department could prosecute conservative tax-exempt groups engaging in constitutionally protected political speech. Your staff appointments for the Office of Special Counsel also lead to concern about your commitment to fairness and justice,” Jordan wrote.
During the Obama administration Smith played a key role in the IRS targeting Tea Party groups for political harassment.
When everyone thought Virginia Republican Governor Bob McDonnell was a potential 2016 GOP presidential candidate Smith tried to put him in jail on sham charges that were so baseless the Supreme Court threw them out on a 9-0 vote.
Jack Smith isn’t even pretending the election isn’t the motivating factor in his prosecutions.
Smith told the Supreme Court it was of vital interest that Trump’s criminal trials wrap up as soon as possible.
But the only person who has an interest in an immediate conviction of Donald Trump is Joe Biden.
Now Jordan is warning Smith that unless he coughs up the documents Jordan requested by January 4, he will have to compel Smith to do so via subpoena.
And getting to the bottom of the political corruption at the heart of Smith’s criminal cases against Trump is in the national interest.
