The FBI quickly concluded Crooks acted alone and shut down the investigation without releasing anything to the public about his motives or how he lined up a clean shot from about 200 yards away against the frontrunner to win the 2024 election.
Secret Service snipers killed Crooks, and his body was quickly cremated, which only added to the suspicion that there was an attempt to cover up a larger plot against Trump.
Suspicions that the Butler assassination attempt was a conspiracy and not the work of a “lone gunman” only heightened when Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) released a new trove of FBI documents about Crooks.
The documents showed that Crooks purchased “suspicious packages” under the alias Bob Dole and that an anonymous individual paid to cremate Crooks’ body.
“Thomas Matthew Crooks, the Pennsylvania man who killed a bystander and seriously wounded two others in a failed assassination attempt on President Donald Trump, had no friends as a teenager and used the alias “Bob Dole” while ordering suspicious packages before an anonymous donor paid for his body to be cremated, according to federal documents,” Fox News Digital reported.
President Trump blasted the Biden administration and former FBI Director Christopher Wray for failing ot protect him and failing to run a real investigation into the assassination attempt as part of a scheme to force him out of the election.
“Everybody knows the Crooked Joe Biden FBI didn’t do what they should have with respect to the Lunatic who shot me in Butler, PA. By the time I got into Office, on January 20th, most of the information was missing, altered, corrupted, or gone. New info was just found! Why wasn’t it seen long ago? This was all a Democrat Plot, to get me out of the Election, that failed. Dirty Cop Christopher Wray should pay a price for the way he handled this assassination attempt, and certainly for the things he said,” Trump wrote.
Journalist Tom Elliot also highlighted several bombshells in the document that raised questions about the FBI investigation.
Director Wray misleadingly testified to Congress about the evidence the FBI collected from the crime scene.
“The FBI had the ladder. A private citizen found it in a wood lot in Bethel Park on July 17, 2024, along with Crooks’ rifle bag and his gun-club ID. A week later, Christopher Wray told Congress, “We did not find the ladder at the scene.” Technically accurate, but misleading. The ladder was 40 miles away, in FBI custody,” Elliot posted on X.
Elliot also noted multiple instances where witnesses saw Crooks at a gun store and gun range with other individuals without any follow-up on the identities of the individuals Crooks was spotted with.
“A gun store in Edinboro, two hours from home, reported someone who looked like Crooks browsing for an hour with two other men, a month and a half before Butler. The file gives us no further details, but the suspect’s ammo purchase matched one of Crooks’ rifles.
The day before the shooting, he spent two hours on the range talking with an unidentified man. Agents ran plates. No follow-up included in the file,” Elliot added.
The FBI also discovered Crooks accessing multiple encrypted email accounts tied to Belgium without providing any documentation about the FBI’s requests to access the accounts.
“He accessed four encrypted Belgian email accounts. The FBI sent formal requests to two foreign governments for records on them. The files do not include whatever came from those requests,” Elliot also wrote.
