There is one wildcard in play in the fight for control over the US Senate.
It’s a ticking time bomb that Democrats fear.
And Trump extended John Fetterman an invitation that hit Chuck Schumer like a freight train.
President Trump continues to broadcast his desire for Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman to switch parties and become a Republican.
Fetterman is on the outs with Democrats over his support for Israel and his constant appearances on Fox News.
And Fetterman has made two recent moves that fueled speculation he may be planning a party switch.
First, Fetterman formed a joint fundraising committee with Pennsylvania Republican Senator David McCormick.
Second, Fetterman filmed a video introducing McCormick at the Republican midterm convention in Dallas, Texas.
“I’d love to see it. I think he’s great,” Trump told reporters when asked about the possibility of Fetterman becoming a Republican.
Fetterman is up for re-election in 2028, and Trump cited polls showing that he would lose a primary challenge if he remains a Democrat.
“It’s going to be hard for him to get the nomination as a Democrat, but I’d love to have him as a Republican,” Trump added.
“He’s a very solid person,” Trump continued. “He’s smart and all that, but he’s got great common sense.”
“If you look at the polls, he does better as a Republican than he does as a Democrat,” Trump concluded.
A recent Quinnipiac poll backed that up, as Fetterman’s disapproval rating among Democrats was 72%, whereas 74% of Republicans approved of him.

Trump reportedly dispatched Sean Hannity to pitch Fetterman on the idea of becoming a Republican in exchange for Trump’s endorsement in 2028.
If Fetterman switched parties, Democrats would still fall short of a majority even if they won four seats in the upcoming midterm election.
But for all of Fetterman’s talk about being a moderate, he said he would never join the GOP because he votes like a socialist, as he supports transgender surgeries for kids, abortion, gun control, and amnesty for illegal aliens.
“I’m not going to be a Republican!” Fetterman said when reporters confronted him about a party switch. “If I turn a Republican, then I’ll be a liar.”
“My name is not on the ballot. Like, chill and wait for the midterm here,” Fetterman exclaimed. “I’ve always been a Democrat. It’s like, no matter how many times I say that, I’m still getting asked just getting into the elevator.”
