Democrats continue to contemplate the unthinkable as Donald Trump keeps leading Joe Biden in the polls.
Now Trump is looking to drive the final nail in the coffin.
And Donald Trump made the VP announcement that is terrifying Democrats.
Jason Calvi of FOX6 got a few minutes with Donald Trump during a campaign swing through Wisconsin.
Wisconsin is one of the seven swing states that will decide the winner of the November election.
Trump long ago wrapped up the GOP nomination.
And the big suspense is who Trump will name as his running mate.
Calvi tried to get Trump to spill the beans by rattling off the names of some of the rumored top contenders to see if Trump would bite.
“Last question on the VP shortlist. You got a big retreat this week, and you’re going to have a lot of the leading candidates for that shortlist. Who’s on the shortlist? Doug Burgum, Tulsi Gabbard, who are you looking at?” Calvi stated.
But Trump wasn’t willing to play any games.
“I mean, all good names. We were speaking before, all good names,” Trump answered.
Calvi then brought up Florida Senator Marco Rubio in the hopes that Trump would hint on how he viewed the 12th Amendment potentially eliminating Rubio due to the requirement that the president and vice president not live in the same state.
If Trump picks Rubio as his vice president, then under the Constitution, Florida’s 29 Electoral College votes won’t count.
And Trump can’t win the election without Florida.
“Marco Rubio?” Calvi wondered.
“Marco’s great. I think he’s been great,” Trump replied.
“He’s one of your tops?” Calvi tried one more time.
“Well, he’s one of the people I respect. I can tell you Marco’s been great. But, so many people ask that question, usually it’s done right around the convention,” Trump added.
However, Trump was willing to drop some breadcrumbs about when he would make his running-mate pick.
The Republican National Convention is slated for Milwaukee from July 15 to 18.
Trump told Calvi it’s likely he will announce his running mate before the convention as opposed to the traditional convention week rollout.
“So, it’s going to be done, and maybe it’s going to be done before you, because here we are in Wisconsin. We’ll be making that decision, I think, closer to Wisconsin-time, if you want to know the truth. It’s very early right now,” Trump revealed.
Given Trump’s lead in the polls and the fact that he can only serve one term, every ambitious Republican in America covets the position of Trump’s running mate.
Trump values loyalty to him and his agenda first and foremost.
The good news is Trump should have a wide selection of running mates to choose from.
And the strong likelihood is that Trump will pick someone who can expand the ticket’s appeal and help him implement his America First policies once in office.
