Sean Hannity and Trey Gowdy are both colleagues at Fox News Channel.
The two had a revealing conversation.
And Trey Gowdy admitted one secret to Sean Hannity that could have changed everything.
Gowdy was the latest guest on Sean Hannity’s podcast, and the two discussed the late Lindsey Graham.
Graham spent decades in Washington infuriating the conservative base by his support for amnesty for illegal aliens, the Green New Deal, and endless wars in the Middle East.
Every six years, conservatives looked for a challenger to unseat Graham in a primary.
Trey Gowdy let Hannity in on the never-before-known truth that in 2020, conservatives attempted to recruit Gowdy to run against Graham, and there was even polling showing Gowdy would likely beat Graham.
But Gowdy explained to Hannity that he said at the time that he didn’t care what any poll showed; he wouldn’t run against Graham due to their friendship.
“Look, they showed me polling six years ago that showed that I would do well if I ran head-to-head with Lindsey. New York Times showed it to me, and I laughed at him and said it could be 100 to zero, and I would rather have the friendship than the job,” Gowdy stated.
Hannity was impressed with that answer and told Gowdy so.
“That speaks to your character,” Hannity replied.
Gowdy brushed off the compliment and said his decision not to run against Graham out of friendship said more about Graham than him.
“Speaks to what a character he was that I’d rather be friends with him,” Gowdy shot back.
“I would rather have the friendship than the job.”

Conservatives again tried to recruit Gowdy to challenge Darlene Graham in the primary election to replace Graham following his death.
Polls again showed that Gowdy would likely win.
But even though Darlene Graham’s only qualification was her last name, she showed herself woefully unprepared for the job when she admitted during a debate that she didn’t know anything about national security; Gowdy again passed on the race.
Gowdy never said why he didn’t run for Senate after Lindsey’s passing.
However, his answer to Hannity about not wanting to challenge Lindsey Graham due to their friendship likely extended to Darlene Graham as well.
