The Democrats’ “resistance” to Donald Trump’s Presidency is crumbling.
On every front, Nancy Pelosi, Adam Schiff, Chuck Schumer and their allies are facing defeat after defeat.
And now William Barr dropped the hammer on these key Democrats. And they are going to hate what happens next.
Donald Trump entered the Presidency promising to crack down on sanctuary cities.
But thanks to a dedicated resistance within the bureaucracy and in the courts, Democrats were able to thwart the President’s attempts to eliminate the ability of rogue cities to thumb their noses at federal immigration law.
Now that Attorney General William Barr is in place and the impeachment witch hunt ended in victory the President can turn his focus back to pushing full speed ahead with his “Make America Great Again” immigration agenda.
To that end, Attorney General William Barr announced the Justice Department would slap rogue “sanctuary cities” with lawsuits to sanction them for their lawless behavior.
Two jurisdictions Attorney General Barr singled out were New Jersey and Washington State.
New Jersey state Attorney General Gurbir Singh Grewal issued a directive banning local law enforcement from sharing the immigration and release date status of illegal aliens in their custody with ICE.
In Washington State, a King’s County executive order bans ICE from using the county airport for deportations.
Barr explained that the legal and moral basis for these lawsuits rested in the Supremacy Clause of the United States Constitution.
Speaking at the National Sheriff’s Association 2020 Winter Legislative and Technology Conference in Washington, D.C, Attorney General Barr stated that “the Founding Fathers carefully divided responsibility and power between the federal government and the state governments. The ‘Supremacy Clause’ in Article VI of the Constitution provides that the ‘Constitution, and the laws of the United States which shall be made in pursuance thereof… shall be the supreme law of the land.’”
Barr went on to detail how enforcing immigration law was the sole purview of the federal government and as such the states could not pick and choose which aspects of immigration policy they wanted to enforce as if they were ordering off a menu.
“This Clause is a vital part of our constitutional order. Enforcing a country’s immigration laws is an essential function of the national government. And no national government can enforce those laws properly if state and local governments are getting in the way. While federal law does not require that ‘sanctuary jurisdictions’ actively assist with federal immigration enforcement, it does prohibit them from interfering with our enforcement efforts,” Barr added.
Democrat State Attorneys General are the shock troops in the left’s war on the Trump administration.
Every time President Trump issues a directive that seeks to fulfill his promise to the American people to slam the door on the illegal alien invasion, Democrat Attorneys General race to the nearest Obama judge to file a lawsuit in hopes of blocking the President’s attempts to end open borders.
Attorney General Barr isn’t just content to eventually win these cases at the Circuit or Supreme Court level.
Barr announced the Trump administration is going on offense to prevent Democrat states from staging a mutiny against the federal government’s attempts to seal the border.
