The Washington establishment is rallying around Robert Mueller.
Mueller represents their last chance to nullify the results of the 2016 election.
And one RINO Senator just betrayed the President by siding with Mueller in this key fight.
Members of Congress have continually floated the idea of passing legislation to prevent Trump from firing the special counsel—even though there is no indication that Trump plans to take this course of action.
But anti-Trump journalists love to advertise the members of Congress who support this legislation because it gives them a chance to whip the nation into a frenzy about being on the verge of a constitutional crisis.
Maine Senator Susan Collins took the bait and told ABC that she supports this unconstitutional legislation—Congress can’t put limits on the executive branch’s ability to fire its subordinates.
“Sunday on ABC’s “This Week,” Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) argued the Congress should pass legislation to protect special counsel Robert Mueller as a way to “send a message to the White House.”
Collins said, “I think that it would not hurt if we passed legislation to send a message to the White House that we want the investigation to continue. But the fact is that the president is never going to sign that legislation. And will are some legitimate Constitutional concerns about it. But, having the discussion in Congress does send a strong message that we do not want Mr. Mueller’s investigation interfered with in any way.”
North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis is the lead sponsor of the illegal legislation that would block Trump from firing Mueller.
He defends the bill by claiming it also puts in place protections against a Democrat President firing a special counsel.
“But Tillis has a lengthy rationale for working with Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Chris Coons (D-Del.) and Cory Booker (D-N.J.) on the bill, which would allow a special counsel a 10-day window to fight a potential removal by the Trump administration and could soon see a vote in the Senate Judiciary Committee.
He argues that passing the law now would offer future protections against liberal presidents under investigation, specifically “a President Warren or a President Sanders or a President Booker.” And if successful, he’d remove a major talking point from Democrats who have been slamming the GOP for not doing more to safeguard Mueller and the rule of law.
But more than anything, Tillis wants to take a stand against what he calls “situational ethics”: Politicians changing their stances based on who is in the White House without sticking to any deeply held philosophical moorings.
“The only way you get these things done [is] when you have somebody who is willing to take the heat when you’re in the majority,” Tillis said. “You see it all the time. Hammer the table when it benefits you, not when it disadvantages your guy that has the same jersey on. There’s no rational explanation except being duplicitous.”
This is nonsense.
The Obama administration already proved that Democrats never appoint a special counsel to investigate their own.
There would never be a special counsel investigation of a President Warren, Booker, or Biden.
Talking about legislation blocking Trump from firing Mueller only fuels the fake news speculation that Trump will axe Mueller at any moment.
Trump has smartly resisted this course of action and there is no indication he will fall for the media trap of firing Mueller.
