Donald Trump is getting his presidential campaign rolling.
Trump had a message of warning for the left.
And Donald Trump said four words that stopped Democrats cold in their tracks.
During a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) Donald Trump told the attendees that he would fight on their behalf against the liberal elites who looked down at them, looted the country, and weaponized the government to destroy their lives and attack their cultural values telling them, “I am your retribution.”
“In 2016, I declared, ‘I am your voice,’” Trump declared. “Today, I add: I am your warrior. I am your justice. And for those who have been wronged and betrayed, I am your retribution.”
Trump raised the stakes of the election claiming it was “the final battle” between the woke mob and the “Make America Great Again” movement.
“This is the final battle,” Trump added. “They know it, I know it, you know it, everybody knows it.”
Liberal activists at The New York Times wrote a hit piece falsely claiming Trump’s speech was a call for vengeance and a signal to his base that they should prepare for violence.
“His menacing declaration landed differently in the wake of the pro-Trump mob’s assault on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, in a last-ditch effort to keep him in power. The notion that Mr. Trump’s supporters could be spurred to violence is no longer hypothetical, as it was in 2016 when he urged a rally audience to ‘knock the crap out of’ hecklers. The attack on the Capitol underscored that his most fanatical followers took his falsehoods and claims of victimhood seriously — and were willing to act on them,” left-wing activists Maggie Haberman and Shane Goldmacher wrote.
Trump spokesman Steven Cheung shut this nonsense down telling the Times the speech was “a call to political action to defeat the Democrats who have put their collective boot on the throats of Americans,” and that “Anyone who thinks otherwise is either being disingenuous or is outright lying because they know President Trump continues to be a threat to the political establishment.”
Trump’s true message was about draining the swamp.
In his speech Trump referenced an executive order he tried to put in place towards the end of his term called Schedule F.
Schedule F would allow the president to fire bureaucrats who are currently protected by civil service laws which make it nearly impossible to remove them.
“I will totally obliterate the deep state,” Trump told the cheering crowd. “I will fire the unelected bureaucrats and shadow forces who have weaponized our justice system like it has never been weaponized before.”
This is always a problem for Republicans as government bureaucrats notoriously lean left.
Even when a Republican is president a legion of liberal bureaucrats means the GOP is never actually in charge of government.
Career officials have all sorts of ways to throw sand in the gears and obstruct conservative policy from leaks to plain old slow-walking policy implementation.
But in his CPAC speech Trump promised the days of bureaucrats ensuring permanent Democrat capture of government were over.
