Impeachment and the report about the FBI’s spying on the Trump campaign bombarded Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Barack Obama and the rest of the left with devastating headlines.
Then Trey Gowdy stood up and said the three words that stopped Washington in its tracks.
In an interview with NBC News, Attorney General William Barr ripped the FBI for spying on the Trump campaign based on the hoax that Trump and his associates colluded with the Russian government.
“I think our nation was turned on its head for three years based on a completely bogus narrative that was largely fanned and hyped by a completely irresponsible press,” Barr told NBC’s Pete Williams. “I think there were gross abuses …and inexplicable behavior that is intolerable in the FBI.”
“I think that leaves open the possibility that there was bad faith,” Attorney General Barr added.
Disgraced former FBI Director James Comey waged a furious PR campaign to gaslight the American people into not believing the facts surrounding the FBI’s criminal conduct that Inspector General Horowitz uncovered.
“[Barr] does not have a factual basis as the attorney general of the United States to be speculating that agents acted in bad faith. The facts just aren’t there. Full stop. That doesn’t make it any less consequential, any less important, but that’s an irresponsible statement,” Comey whined.
Gowdy responded to Comey’s lies in an interview on Fox News Channel’s “The Story” with Martha MacCallum.
The former South Carolina Congressman tore into Comey roaring that Comey “lost his mind.”
Gowdy went further and ripped the idea that political bias played no role in the Russian collusion hoax.
“How many of these ‘close calls’ went in favor of President Trump?” Gowdy wondered. “When they changed the email, was it to help Trump or hurt him? When they put the dossier material in, was it to help Trump or hurt him? When they put the DNC-funded Fusion GPS research material, was that to help Trump or to hurt him?
“Everything that happened was done to hurt Donald Trump. Look, this is the same Jim Comey who thought it was nonsense that we were looking into it, now he’s had a mea culpa,” Gowdy added.
These are strong and surprising words from Gowdy.
Gowdy served as a federal prosecutor before voters in South Carolina’s Fourth Congressional District elected him to Congress in 2010.
That background led Gowdy to revere the FBI as an institution.
And in 2017, after President Trump fired Comey it was rumored that Gowdy was in contention for the job of FBI Director.
For Gowdy – who respects law and order – to turn on a FBI Director in such public and personal terms speaks to depths of corruption and scandal that infected the FBI on Comey’s watch.
