The Democrat Party is reaching an inflection point.
One of their biggest names is facing a scandal that could define the party in the 2022 midterms.
And Trey Gowdy delivered some bad news to this top Democrat about resigning from office.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is under fire.
Three women accused him of sexual harassment.
But more importantly, his top aide admitted to concealing the true number of nursing home deaths from the coronavirus out of fear it would be used in a criminal investigation.
And The Wall Street Journal reported that Cuomo’s aides pressured the health department to delete the true number of deaths from coronavirus in nursing homes from a report because the real number was 50 percent higher than the total Cuomo was admitting in public.
Appearing on Fox News, Gowdy slammed Democrats for having one standard for Donald Trump—where they impeached him twice in sham partisan proceedings—and their own leaders.
“I think the American people are going to have to decide what is our standard for propriety and impropriety, and that is to be the same standard for Republicans and Democrats,” Gowdy began.
Gowdy cited the case of the multiple Virginia Democrats caught up in what should have been career-ending scandals.
Governor Ralph Northam at first apologized for appearing in blackface in a picture in his medical school yearbook and then later backtracking and claimed it wasn’t him in the picture despite the fact that Northam already apologized for being in blackface in the photo.
The Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax also did not resign because he was mired in a sexual assault accusation.
“I mean, keep in mind, the Virginia governor decided to ride out his controversy. The Virginia lieutenant governor decided to ride out this controversy,” Gowdy added.
Gowdy said it was up to the people of New York to draw the line and make it clear that Cuomo’s conduct—accusations of serial sexual harassment as well as obstruction of justice—crossed the boundary and that he most leave office either through impeachment or resignation.
“If that’s not enough for the voters of New York to rise up and say, you know what, we can do better than that. It should not be up to the criminal justice system. Some of this is just creepy behavior, but it may not rise to the level of a crime. But that’s not the standard for staying in office. Just narrowly avoiding indictment is not the standard for staying in public office,” Gowdy said.
Cuomo’s nursing home scandal holds the most danger for Democrats.
The 2022 midterms could turn into a referendum on Democrat governors that imposed pointless lockdowns and mask mandates.
If that is the case, Cuomo’s deadly incompetence could define the political terrain for Democrats.
