The news is full of worries about a second wave of the coronavirus that will not go away.
But what will Joe Biden do to mitigate these fears?
Apparently force another series of economy-destroying lockdowns.
Now, this Republican is standing against Biden’s insane plan.
The coronavirus has been—unfortunately—the most consistent thing about 2020.
Since it made its sweep of the globe in February, the entire world is still in partial lockdown in the hopes of banishing the deadly disease.
But these lockdowns come with a hefty economic, social, and mental price.
Small businesses are shutting down, millions of people are laid off from work with no hope for a job in sight, depression and suicide rates have skyrocketed as people are forced to isolate.
These things are no joke.
But now Biden wants to institute another round of lockdowns as COVID-19 numbers dramatically spike again.
And now Rand Paul is already taking a stand against the potential Biden administration’s plan.
On Sunday, Paul appeared on “The CATS Roundtable with John Catsimatidis” where he made his intentions to stop lockdowns very clear.
“Today, Biden’s talking more about a lockdown. This is absolutely why he’s going to be a terrible president if we get him. He’s going to ruin the country. Lockdowns don’t work. And in fact, all of the evidence on mandatory masks show that they don’t work either… Now, this is just showing that … all these mitigation strategies — washing our hands, staying six feet apart — they really don’t work, frankly. And the virus, as the Wall Street Journal put it, is insidious. It does what it’s going to do. The only thing that’s going to stop it is either enough immunity among individuals in the community or a vaccine.”
Paul raises some excellent points about the severity of the virus and people’s attempts to mitigate its severity.
National Geographic released a poll that stated over 92% of Americans believe wearing a mask will help against COVID-19, with 74% of people saying they “always” wear a mask when leaving the house.
In addition, they believe that other safety measures—such as washing your hands more frequently, frequent sanitization, and staying six feet apart—have all contributed to the slowing of the virus.
So why does the data still show such a high percentage of deaths from coronavirus?
Frankly, it comes down to the individual’s proper usage of safety measures.
Paul states that he does not believe these measures are working and the only thing that can stop COVID-19 is a vaccine.
He is correct to a certain extent.
Unfortunately, the extra safety measures are not a guarantee of safety, they are there to work in tandem with each other to prevent the spread as much as possible.
But the news that truly worries people is the thought of another total lockdown.
Human beings are social creatures; it is in our nature to seek others and to bond together, especially in times of crises.
People’s mental and physical health are suffering as they go into isolation, coupled with the fear of the unknown.
And Biden will have to face more angry mobs should he move forward with his plan to lock down the country a second time.
