Sean Hannity is one of the most popular talk show hosts on Fox News.
But Hannity also speaks for a large segment of the conservative base.
And now Sean Hannity made a resignation announcement that left viewers stunned into silence.
Sean Hannity was among the millions of conservatives furious that anti-Trump RINO Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell threw in the towel in his staring contest with Chuck Schumer over raising the debt ceiling.
McConnell spent months making a big show of demanding that Democrats add trillions to the debt by raising the debt ceiling through the same reconciliation process Democrats planned to use to ram trillions of dollars in socialist spending through the Senate.
Republicans believed that if the debt ceiling was tied to the socialist spending bill, the time crunch – the Biden administration claimed the deadline to raise the debt ceiling was October 18 – could cause Democrats to scuttle the trillions in socialist welfare spending.
But just as the fight heated up McConnell waved the white flag of surrender.
McConnell caved in to Chuck Schumer after Joe Biden and some Senate Democrats bluffed about eliminating the filibuster for debt ceiling votes.
On his Fox News show, Hannity tore into McConnell claiming that “radical Democrats” in Congress “have a brand-new hero with their multitrillion-dollar socialist agenda” that Hannity explained sat on the verge of imploding.
Instead of standing firm, Hannity stated that “Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell [is] throwing Democrats a lifeline.”
Hannity told McConnell that if he did not shape up and begin fighting for conservatives, it was time for McConnell to step down.
The popular Fox News host stated, “you need to stop being a swamp creature, and if you want to be a conservative leader, you need to start acting like one, and if you can’t do that, you really do need to step aside because God only knows what will happen in reconciliation.”
Donald Trump later appeared for an interview and echoed Hannity’s comments that since McConnell never fought for conservatives it was time for new leadership in the Senate.
“Mitch is not the guy, not the right guy, he’s not doing the job,” Trump declared. “He gave [Sen. Charles Schumer of New York and his Democrats] a lifeline – it’s more than a lifeline, he gave them so much time to figure out what to do because they were in a big bind; they were unable to do anything.
“He had the weapon and he was able to use it. It’s a shame,” Trump continued. “That’s not a good thing that happened today. He made a big mistake.”
Conservatives hated McConnell for years.
McConnell supports RINOs in primaries because his primary goal is to defeat conservatives and enable liberals.
And McConnell proved that with his conduct during the debt ceiling surrender.
