Every Democrats’ worst nightmare is liberal Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg stepping down while Donald Trump is still in office.
This would tip the court to the conservatives and negate Chief Justice John Roberts’ leftward drift.
And now Ruth Bader Ginsburg found herself facing her retirement after this bad news.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s dealt with multiple health issues from broken ribs to cancer over the last several years.
But her most recent hospital stay raised tensions on the left because of how close it was to the election.
Spokeswoman Kathleen Arberg did announce that Ginsburg was out of the hospital ahead of schedule.
“Justice Ginsburg has been discharged from the hospital,” Arberg wrote in a statement to the press. “She is home and doing well.”
Previously, Arberg announced that Ginsburg would be in the hospital for a few days to receive treatment for an infection.
“Justice Ginsburg was admitted to The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland early this morning for treatment of a possible infection,” Arberg’s statement began.
“She was initially evaluated at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C. last night after experiencing fever and chills. She underwent an endoscopic procedure at Johns Hopkins this afternoon to clean out a bile duct stent that was placed last August. The Justice is resting comfortably and will stay in the hospital for a few days to receive intravenous antibiotic treatment,” Arberg concluded.
During a Rose Garden press conference, President Trump wished Ginsburg a speedy recovery.
“I wish her the best. I hope she’s better. I didn’t hear that, actually. She was just hospitalized? No, that’s too bad,” President Trump told the fake news. “No, I wish her the best. She’s actually giving me some good rulings.”
If Ginsburg does retire, President Trump and Senate Republicans will replace Ginsburg with a conservative female justice.
Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Amy Coney Barrett would be the obvious choice.
Democrats would fume and look for revenge at the earliest point possible.
Should Joe Biden win the presidency and carry Democrats across the finish line for a Senate majority, many experts predict the Democrats would not tolerate a six to three conservative majority on the court.
Under that scenario, Democrats would pack the Supreme Court with six new liberal justices to create a new nine to six permanent liberal majority.
Many pundits believe Ruth Bader Ginsburg is only hanging onto her seat – there is plenty of evidence she is no longer capable of effectively carrying out her duties – in hopes Joe Biden wins the election.
But if Donald Trump wins a second term, Ginsburg’s health may force her to retire.
