Joe Biden never saw it coming.
And now all hell is breaking loose.
That’s because Ron DeSantis picked this fight with Joe Biden over the coronavirus vaccine.
For over a year the cruise ship industry has been shut down.
Cruises play a significant role in the state of Florida’s economy.
Spending on cruises accounted for an economic impact of 159,000 jobs in Florida and pumped nearly eight billion dollars in revenue into the state’s economy.
Celebrity Cruises was the first company to come back online and announced that in conjunction with Joe Biden’s CDC, all U.S. guests over the age of 12 must be vaccinated by August 1 in order to book a trip.
“All guests ages 16 years and older must be fully vaccinated with all Covid-19 vaccine doses administered at least 14 days prior to sailing. As of August 1, 2021, all US Guests age 12 and older must be fully vaccinated. For UK residents, all guests 18 and over must be fully vaccinated with all Covid-19 vaccine doses administered at least 14 days prior to sailing. Crew members onboard will be vaccinated,” Celebrity Cruises announced.
The Biden administration claimed it did not support a so-called “vaccine passport,” but the highly political Centers for Disease Control worked with Celebrity Cruises to develop a vaccine passport system.
This vaccine passport flew in the face of Florida law.
Governor Ron DeSantis signed legislation banning businesses in Florida from mandating proof of vaccination to use their facilities.
DeSantis framed the legislation as an anti-discrimination policy to protect the rights of Floridians that chose not to receive the coronavirus vaccine.
In an announcement, DeSantis said the legislation applied to all businesses in the state, and businesses“including Celebrity Cruises, should immediately cease to impose such discriminatory policies upon individuals.”
DeSantis also noted that any business—Celebrity Cruises included—faced a fine of $5,000 per day for imposing vaccine passports on customers in Florida.
“Companies that violate this law would be subject to a fine of $5,000 each time they require a customer to present a ‘vaccine passport’ for service,” DeSantis added,“We look forward to seeing Celebrity Cruises set sail in compliance with Florida law.”
But Celebrity Cruises refused to back down.
Like many companies in 2021 America, they side with the Democrat Party and its agenda.
“We are working to finalize our health and safety measures for cruises departing from U.S. ports, including Florida, in collaboration with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as local authorities in the U.S. and destinations we visit,” Celebrity spokesperson Susan Lomax said in a statement to USA Today.
“Our commitment to sail with fully vaccinated crew members and guests still stands as it is a meaningful layer to ensure we make every effort to help keep safe our guests, crew and the communities we visit,” Lomax added.
Governor DeSantis’s star rose in the Republican Party because he refused to bow to the so-called public health “experts” and corporate media activists demanding he impose coronavirus lockdowns and mask mandates in Florida.
Instead, Governor DeSantis kept Florida largely open and fought back at every turn in defending his decision.
Many Americans fear the Biden administration will outsource imposing vaccine mandates to private corporations in the same way the left counts on social media companies to end run the First Amendment and suppress free speech by ruthlessly enforcing their “terms of service” against conservatives.
Celebrity Cruises standing by the Biden administration’s vaccine passport guidance in defiance of Florida law serves as a test case in this effort.
And many on the left will not be happy if DeSantis comes out on the winning end of this fight.
