Conservatives have been waiting for this moment.
Dr. Anthony Fauci is about to face the music for his disastrous performance during the COVID pandemic.
That’s because Ron DeSantis just caught Dr. Fauci red-handed violating the law.
During a roundtable event where Governor DeSantis outlined his steps to hold COVID vaccine manufacturers and so-called public health “experts” accountable Governor DeSantis took aim at Dr. Fauci and other government officials that allegedly pressured social media companies to censor critics of lockdowns and mask mandates as well as those who raised questions about the controversial mRNA COVID vaccines.
“Part of this issue and other issues with COVID … goes back to an attempt to enforce one acceptable narrative on all these issues,” DeSantis stated.
DeSantis cited how the Twitter Files revealed that the social media giant censored Dr. Jay Bhattacharya for speaking scientific truths about how lockdowns harmed children.
But since Dr. Bhattacharya spoke out against hivemind groupthink of left-wing public health bureaucrats, Twitter silenced him.
DeSantis also took aim at Dr. Fauci for emailing colleagues imploring them to smear the doctors who signed the Great Barrington Declaration.
The Great Barrington Declaration was a document put together in October 2020 by scientists who followed the data instead of ideology and correctly called for an end to all mandates and restrictions.
“You also saw it with Dr. Fauci and some of these people saying that they needed to go after these people who wrote the Great Barrington Declaration,” DeSantis added.
Many of these so-called “experts” decided early on that only lockdowns and mask mandates constituted a proper response and when conservatives began questioning the lack of data backing up the restrictions the pro-lockdown crowd dug in even further.
“And so part of the reason I think it’s been a bad response is because from the very beginning, you’ve had a lot of arrogance that it’s our way or the highway, and anyone that offers any type of a dissenting opinion — and they were censoring from day one,” DeSantis continued.
“We saw that over and over again. And I think that ultimately, your policies or your positions or your analysis of this medical science should stand on its own. And if it’s not able to accept criticism, if you can’t defend the policy against valid criticism, then maybe you need to be looking in the mirror, but that’s not what these elite wanted to do,” DeSantis declared.
Now the question remains if there is evidence Dr. Fauci and other government officials pressured Big Tech to censor COVID lockdown and mandate critics.
There is established Supreme Court case law holding that the government violates the First Amendment when it pressures private actors to censor speech that the Constitution would otherwise protect.
But experts also believe that if Dr. Fauci and others leaned on Twitter to censor vaccine critics they may also have committed a crime.
Columbia Law School Professor Philip Hamburger wrote an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal arguing that Section 241 of Title 18 of the U.S. Code may allow for the prosecution of government officials who demanded Twitter censor critics of COVID policies.
The statute reads:
If two or more persons conspire to injure, oppress, threaten, or intimidate any person . . . in the free exercise or enjoyment of any right or privilege secured to him by the Constitution or laws of the United States, or because of his having so exercised the same, . . . they shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both.
Now DeSantis and other conservatives will wait and see if the Twitter Files and upcoming GOP investigations into COVID and social media censorship produce evidence of this criminal behavior.
