Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez entered Congress on a mission to turn America into a socialist state.
But her career took an unexpected turn.
And one top Republican sided with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on this major vote.
Congressional leaders spent days behind closed doors drawing up a 2.5 trillion-dollar spending scheme.
Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer and Mitch McConnell claimed this boondoggle would provide the American people coronavirus relief.
But right off the bat, members of Congress objected to leaders hammering out a bill in secret and then springing a “take it or leave it” offer with just hours before the vote, leaving no chance for senators and congressmen to read what was in the nearly 6,000-page bill.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez—of all people—was one of the first to speak out against this ridiculous set of circumstances.
“Congress is expected to vote on the second largest bill in US history *today* – $2.5 trillion – and as of about 1pm, members don’t even have the legislative text of it yet,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote on social media.
“It’s not good enough to hear about what’s in the bill. Members of Congress need to see & read the bills we are expected to vote on. I know it’s ‘controversial’ & I get in trouble for sharing things like this, but the people of this country deserve to know. They deserve better,” Ocasio-Cortez added.
For one of the only times ever, Texas Senator Ted Cruz rose to Ocasio-Cortez’s defense.
“@AOC is right.” Cruz began. “It’s ABSURD to have a $2.5 trillion spending bill negotiated in secret and then—hours later—demand an up-or-down vote on a bill nobody has had time to read,” Cruz posted.
Soon after, the Wall Street Journal’s Michelle Hackman confirmed just why members of Congress should be concerned about what they were voting on without any time to read the bill.
Leadership proposed sending $600 checks to Americans making less than $75,000 a year, but $1,800 to family members of illegal aliens.
“Family members of unauthorized immigrants are now eligible to get stimulus checks under the $900 billion deal reached last night,” Hackman reported. “That eligibility is retroactive, so adults excluded last time could get up to $1800 now.”
This spending bill is a disaster.
Americans get $600 checks while the family members of illegal aliens get three times as much money.
The bill even sends $700 million to Sudan.
Massive spending bills drafted in secret and sprung on Congress at the last minute led to the Tea Party in 2009.
The latest 2.5 trillion-dollar giveaway is the very definition of “America Last”.
And it’s a massive slap in the face to the Americans that lost their jobs as governments mandated their businesses shut down.
