Nancy Pelosi really went there.
Both Republicans and Democrats were shocked.
And that’s because Nancy Pelosi threw down one ultimatum that had all hell breaking loose.
Joe Biden was all set to celebrate a victory lap.
Republicans, led by Never Trump founding father Mitt Romney, surrendered on a one-trillion-dollar infrastructure bill that set up as the first step in a maneuver to pass a six-trillion-dollar reconciliation package Bernie Sanders plans to load up with Green New Deal provisions and welfare state programs.
Democrats needed a feint of bipartisanship to provide political cover for Senators Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema so they can vote for the reconciliation package.
But Democrats’ plans blew up within hours as Nancy Pelosi threatened to hold the bipartisan infrastructure bill hostage until the Senate passed the six-trillion-dollar liberal wish list through reconciliation.
“It’s as I said. There won’t be an infrastructure bill unless we have a reconciliation bill, plain and simple. … There ain’t going to be an infrastructure bill unless we have the reconciliation bill passed by the United States Senate,” Pelosi began.
“Let me be really clear on this: we will not take up a bill in the House until the Senate passes the bipartisan bill and a reconciliation bill,” Pelosi added. “If there is no bipartisan bill, then we’ll just go when the Senate passes a reconciliation bill.”
Republicans immediately realized they’d been duped and were not happy.
GOP senators set as a redline any attempt by the Democrats to undo the 2017 Trump tax cuts and soak the American people.
But Pelosi linking the infrastructure bill Republicans and Democrats negotiated to the party line tax and spend bill left the GOP understanding that Biden and the Democrats used their votes to unwind Donald Trump’s signature legislative achievement.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell thundered that this double-cross threatened to blow up the deal.
McConnell explained that Biden and Pelosi altering the deal put the GOP“in the position of if we cooperate with them in passing the infrastructure bill, all the Democrats have to line up and fracture the 2017 tax bill, raising taxes on individuals, on the states, on companies, and the rest, it puts us in a very, very challenging position. So I would say we need to keep talking here. Because I think the bill, to be bipartisan, is going to have to have Republican support.”
Joe Biden was desperate for a “bipartisan” win.
But Biden was also desperate to pass the six-trillion-dollar welfare and Green New Deal bill that would push America one step closer to turning into a socialist nation.
Nancy Pelosi made it clear that Democrats will not do one without the other.
And now Republicans are faced with the choice of walking away or putting their fingerprints on Joe Biden’s far-left agenda.
