Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats are in a jam.
This is a problem entirely of their own making.
Nancy Pelosi picked a fight with Brett Kavanaugh that will end badly for Democrats.
At the end of the Supreme Court term, Justice Brett Kavanaugh handed down a ruling striking down the Centers for Disease Control’s moratorium of evictions.
Justice Kavanaugh said only Congress could extend the moratorium – which was set to expire on July 31 – but left the eviction moratorium in place because it was set to expire in a matter of weeks.
Democrats in Congress and the Biden administration promptly did nothing until hours before the deadline when Nancy Pelosi oversaw a doomed effort to pass legislation to extend an emergency big government power grab.
After Pelosi failed to lineup the Democrat votes in the House to pass an extension of an unconstitutional federal takeover of the renters’ market, Pelosi then begged Joe Biden to defy the Supreme Court and unilaterally extend the eviction moratorium.
“Action is needed, and it must come from the Administration,” Pelosi and her fellow Democrat leadership members wrote. “That is why House leadership is calling on the Administration to immediately extend the moratorium.”
Even though a vaccine is widely available and the economy is opening, Pelosi and her fellow Democrats argued for what amounted to a permanent extension of the pandemic emergency powers to block evictions.
“As the CDC doubles down on mask-wearing and vaccination efforts, science and reason demand that they must also extend the moratorium in light of the delta variant,” the Democrats’ statement continued.
“The virus is still a threat. The moratorium must be extended, and the funds Congress allocated to assist renters and landlords must be spent,” Pelosi added. “An extension of the moratorium is based on public health and the delta variant. It will also give more time to allow the money that Congress allocated to finally flow.”
Pelosi and her fellow Democrats also claimed states could use money Congress already spent to bailout renters.
“We call upon the Treasury Department to indicate how the funds that it has already transferred to states and communities can be more effectively distributed to renters and landlords,” the Democrats stated.
If Donald Trump or Republicans openly floated the idea of defying a Supreme Court ruling, the corporate media and Democrats would have launched into an endless news cycle about how America was one step away from falling into 1930s Germany fascism.
Critics accused the Biden administration of demanding Americans wear masks again because Democrats never want the emergency to end.
The coronavirus played a key role in Democrats seizing control of Congress and the White House.
Public health bureaucrats and Democrat governors exercised frightening power grabs, and extending the restrictions provides Democrats the predicate to turn their “emergency” powers into permanent control over Americans’ lives.
