Former Vice President Mike Pence believes he is the heir apparent to Donald Trump.
But those plans may be out the window.
Mike Pence found out from an unexpected source how he just lost his job.
If Donald Trump does not run for president in 2024 the GOP presidential primary will feature a definite frontrunner.
But it is likely not Mike Pence.
Six months ago, that may have been a surprise.
However Pence looks like yesterday’s news.
“Morning Joe” co-host Joe Scarborough claimed that someone he knew that spent four to five decades in Republican politics told him the difference in how the crowd at the 2021 Faith and Freedom Coalition Summit treated both Pence and DeSantis.
Rank-and-file Republicans were much more fond of DeSantis.
“There may be a new leader in the Republican Party, at least in the rank and file. Have you guys heard this?” Scarborough stated.
Scarborough explained that Pence received a polite – but muted – reception that six months ago would have registered at rock star levels.
That’s because Donald Trump and some of his supporters still believe Pence could have rejected the results of the Electoral College and sent the presidential election back to the states.
Pence explained that the Constitution did not grant him that power, but the damage was done.
At the same time Ron DeSantis built a following for fighting back against the corporate media’s attempts to smear him for not locking down Florida or issuing a mask mandate.
DeSantis beat back the media lies with a smile on his face and generated a public image of a happy warrior that refused to lay down like a Mitt Romney-style doormat for the corporate media.
Scarborough explained that while Pence was treated well, the attendees at the conference bestowed rock star status on Governor DeSantis.
He continued, “I asked, I said, how was Pence received? And they said, ‘Well, here’s the deal. It was respectful. They know Mike Pence. They’ve loved him for 20 years. He got three standing ovations.’ But it was muted. He would have had 15 standing ovations last year. He’s had a long way to go, right? But then, this one person said, ‘But my God, you should have seen the response for Ron DeSantis. He was like a conquering king.’ And this person who’s been in Republican politics for 40, 45 years said, ‘I haven’t seen anything since Reagan in ‘80. He was unbelievable,’” Scarborough added.
“Ron DeSantis,” Scarborough continued. “And I keep hearing this. Just rockstar status. This guy is taking over the Republican Party.”
DeSantis racked up base-pleasing wins signing bills into law that banned critical race theory from being taught in schools, biological males from playing girls’ sports and Big Tech censorship of political candidates in Florida.
Should Donald Trump take a pass on the 2024 campaign, Ron DeSantis would enter the race as the instant frontrunner.
