The first presidential debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden faced explosive controversy before the candidates took the stage.
Americans were worried about what Joe Biden was up to.
And Megyn Kelly responded to one big rumor about Fox News and the debate.
Former Fox News personality and independent radio host Todd Starnes claimed Joe Biden received the questions in advance.
“Word on the street is that @JoeBiden got tonight’s debate questions in advance – per @KXEL1540,” Starnes wrote on social media.
In the past debates, moderators have colluded with Democrats.
Back in 2016, Democratic National Committee Chairwoman and CNN contributor Donna Brazile passed town hall debate questions to Hillary Clinton before a face-off with Bernie Sanders.
But Fox News Channel’s Chris Wallace moderated this debate.
And former Fox News Channel host Megyn Kelly defended Wallace and rejected any suggestion that he passed the questions to Biden in advance.
“There is zero chance that’s true,” Kelly responded to Starnes.
Someone on social media asked Kelly how she could be sure that was the case.
“Bc Wallace or his prep team would have to have leaked it. I know them all, and they are above reproach,” Kelly shot back.
That was not the only controversy on debate day.
Trump campaign spokesman Tim Murtaugh blasted Joe Biden for initially agreeing to a third party inspecting each candidate to make sure they didn’t have an ear piece before going back on their word.
“Joe Biden’s handlers several days ago agreed to a pre-debate inspection for electronic earpieces but today abruptly reversed themselves and declined. Biden’s handlers have asked for multiple breaks during the debate, which President Trump doesn’t need, so we have rejected that request,” Murtaugh declared. “On top of the refusal to take a drug test, it seems pretty obvious that the Biden team is looking for any safety net they can find in the hours leading up to the debate. With his 47 years as a failed Washington politician, how much help does Biden want?”
The Biden campaign also denied it asked for two breaks during the debate to give Joe Biden – the oldest person to ever run for President – a break to recover his strength and energy.
“His staff seems concerned that he may not do well tonight and they’re already laying the groundwork for how they’re going to lie about why,” Joe Biden’s deputy campaign manager Kate Bedingfield stammered. “It is completely absurd. Of course, he’s not wearing an earpiece and we never asked for breaks.”
There is no evidence that Chris Wallace passed the questions to Joe Biden before the debate.
But the Biden campaign’s bizarre behavior before the debate led many Americans to ask questions about what was going on.
