Joe Biden has a problem on his hands with Kamala Harris.
Now there may be a plan in motion to force out Kamala Harris.
And Kamala Harris may be about to make this massive career change.
Reports leaked out that left-wing Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer would finally retire at the end of the court’s current term in June.
As usual when a Supreme Court justice retires, the Washington rumor mill immediately cranks up speculating on the successor.
In this case, Biden pledged to make race and gender the only qualifications for his Supreme Court selections.
During a 2020 Democrat presidential primary debate in South Carolina, Joe Biden pledged to nominate a black woman to the Supreme Court telling Americans:
When you get knocked down, get up. And everyone is entitled to be treated with dignity, no matter what, no matter who they are.
My — also, that everyone should be represented. Everyone — and no one’s better than me and I’m no better than anyone else. The fact is, what we should be doing — we talked about the Supreme Court. I’m looking forward to making sure there’s a black woman on the Supreme Court, to make sure we in fact get every representation.
At a White House press briefing following the news leaking that Breyer would step down Jen Psaki confirmed that Biden intended to pick a black woman as his Supreme Court nominee.
“The president has stated and reiterated his commitment to nominating a Black woman to the Supreme Court, and certainly stands by that,” Psaki said.
The early favorite was U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, whom Biden appointed in 2021 in a move many thought was putting Jackson in place to prepare for a potential Supreme Court vacancy.
But another name quickly surfaced.
And that was Vice President Kamala Harris.
NBC’s Peter Alexander asked Psaki “is there any scenario in which the president would select his vice president, Kamala Harris, for the Supreme Court?”
Psaki refused to shoot down the speculation of Harris as Biden’s Supreme Court nominee.
“I’m not going to speak to any considerations,” Psaki answered.
Fox News Channel’s Peter Doocy picked up on Psaki not answering the question and tried to frame the question around a hypothetical candidate that matched Harris’ resume as a former state attorney general.
“I’m not going to speak to any considerations,” Doocy said before asking “theoretically, would someone who was attorney general of a large state and served with many key Senate votes be an attractive candidate to the president for an open Supreme Court seat?”
“I see what you did there,” Psaki responded before offering another non-denial denial by claiming Biden intended to run for re-election with Harris as his running mate.
But putting Harris on the Supreme Court would solve one problem.
Harris holds a toxic 28 percent approval rating according to a USA TODAY/Suffolk poll.
Many believe it is unlikely that Biden – who will be 82 years old – will run for re-election in 2024.
But Harris is so unpopular and politically inept that Democrats fear Harris cannot defeat Donald Trump.
If Democrats thought Harris could beat Trump they would have nominated her in 2020.
But because of the Democrats’ dependence on identity politics, women – and specifically black women – are the core of the Democrat Party’s political coalition.
Democrats cannot simply shove Harris aside when many on the woke left believe it is long past time for a black woman to serve as president.
But Biden putting Harris on the Supreme Court would provide her a prestigious position that would take her off the board as a presidential candidate.
