Many Americans are expecting Kamala Harris to replace Joe Biden as President in the near future.
And that’s because Kamala Harris ended up with egg on her face after this TV interview backfired.
Democrats are trying to pass a $1.9 trillion spending bill to bail out blue states while trying to claim its necessary to stimulate the economy.
Because Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi intend to pass the bill through the budget reconciliation process, they can ram this bill into law with only Democrat votes.
But since Democrats hold 50 Senate seats they cannot afford one defection on the final vote.
West Virginia’s Joe Manchin is a self-proclaimed moderate who is actually a conventional leftist.
For instance, Manchin won election in the 2010 Tea Party wave claiming to be pro-gun.
However in 2013 Manchin colluded with Barack Obama to try and impose a national gun registration database on America after the horrific shooting at Sandy Hook.
Manchin realizes that no other Democrat can win in West Virginia so the party needs him more than he needs the party.
That means Manchin can play hard to get on negotiations for the bill to hold out for specific goodies and special favors without any fear of a primary challenge or political retribution.
Kamala Harris failed to understand that political reality when she conducted an interview with a local West Virginia TV affiliate designed to ratchet up the pressure on Manchin to agree to the bill as proposed by the White House.
“To your point in West Virginia, one in seven families is describing their household as being hungry, one in six can’t pay their rent, and one in four small businesses are closing permanently or have already closed, so it’s a big issue in West Virginia and across the country,” Harris stated. “And that’s why the president and I are offering the American Rescue Plan.”
Manchin reacted with incredulity that Harris would be so boneheaded as to think she could bully Manchin on his home turf.
“I saw [the interview], I couldn’t believe it. No one called me,” Manchin told WSAZ. “We’re going to try to find a bipartisan pathway forward, but we need to work together. That’s not a way of working together.”
Kamala Harris was never known for having sharp political instincts.
Harris’ presidential campaign imploded because she could never figure out who she was as a candidate or what she was for.
She ended up dropping out of the race around Thanksgiving—two months before the first vote was cast—with near zero support in the polls.
The only way Harris will likely ever be President is if Biden gifts her the White House by resigning so she can run as the incumbent president in 2024.
Harris’ ham-fisted attempt to pressure Joe Manchin to toe the White House line proves her political skills did not improve with her new job.
