But footage of Fetterman in a committee hearing shows Fetterman unable to form coherent sentences during his opening statement.

The C-SPAN cameras also caught Fetterman using an iPad’s translation software to carry on a conversation before quickly cutting away.
Media outlets are loath to reveal to the public that Fetterman cannot carry on basic conversation without computer screens showing a transcription of the other person’s part of the conversation.

Fetterman suffered a near-fatal stroke last May and hid the true extent of his cognitive and physical impairment from the voters out of fear it would cost him the election.
In an interview with People Magazine, Fetterman explained his depression set in after his disastrous televised debate performance with Republican opponent Dr. Oz.
As the debate went on it was clear that Fetterman struggled to translate his thoughts into complete sentences and that the stroke inflicted a serious toll on Fetterman.
Fetterman’s campaign spent months trying to downplay the severity of his condition to the press but in the interview with People, Fetterman made it clear just how badly the stroke hampered him.
“But I was still in recovery from the stroke,” Fetterman explained. “It would be trying to run a marathon with a broken ankle.”
After Fetterman won the election Fetterman recounted how much worse his depression got as the reality of his diminished state set in.
“I literally stopped eating and drinking and I wasn’t functional,” Fetterman stated while admitting he stopped taking heart medication vital to his recovery.
Fetterman said his physical and mental condition was so bad that even his children could not sugarcoat it.
“There wasn’t one person in my life that said, ‘Yeah, you really seem great. You sound fine here.'” Fetterman recounted. “When an eight year-old can realize that something’s really wrong…”
Fetterman and the Democrats feel safe revealing the truth about his condition because the election is over and Fetterman won’t have to face the voters again until 2028.
