Joe Biden is experiencing some tough days.
And events took a turn for the worse.
Joe Biden just waved the white flag of surrender in one fight he never expected.
In his first days in office,Joe Biden bungled his way into a border crisis by rolling back Donald Trump’s successful immigration policies which illegal aliens took as an engraved invitation to pour into the United States in numbers not seen in nearly two decades.
Biden realized he created a political ticking time bomb and tried to avoid one of the traps he set for himself by keeping Donald Trump’s record low refugee cap of 15,000 in place.
“At midday on Friday, the administration had said it would limit the number of refugees allowed into the United States this year to the historically low level of 15,000 set by the Trump administration, breaking an earlier pledge to greatly increase that number and let in more than 60,000 people fleeing war and persecution,” The New York Times reported.
That infuriated the left.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wants open borders because the higher the level of immigration, the more voters Democrats think they will add to the rolls.
Ocasio-Cortez tore into Biden for supporting racism and breaking his promise to boost the refugee cap to 62,500 this year.
“Completely and utterly unacceptable. Biden promised to welcome immigrants, and people voted for him based on that promise. Upholding the xenophobic and racist policies of the Trump admin, incl the historically low + plummeted refugee cap, is flat out wrong. Keep your promise,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote on social media.
Ocasio-Cortez was not alone in ripping Biden for keeping Trump’s successful refugee policy in place and the outburst achieved its intended results.
In short order, White House press secretary Jen Psaki released a confusing statement that indicated Biden would sign an order next month lifting the refugee cap.
“The President’s directive today has been the subject of some confusion,” Psaki’s statement read. “Last week, he sent to Congress his budget for the fiscal year starting in October 2021, which honors his commitment. For the past few weeks, he has been consulting with his advisors to determine what number of refugees could realistically be admitted to the United States between now and October 1. Given the decimated refugee admissions program we inherited, and burdens on the Office of Refugee Resettlement, his initial goal of 62,500 seems unlikely.”
But this did not please many on the left who questioned if Biden would actually follow through on raising the refugee cap.
“Who knows if they’ll follow through on it which means 15K may remain in place,” World Relief Senior Vice President of Advocacy and Policy Jenny Yang told POLITICO. “[And] they could have done this two months ago to recategorize the allocations.”
This was the first time Joe Biden faced organized opposition from the left on a policy initiative.
Biden folded in about two hours.
Donald Trump’s warning that Joe Biden would serve as a puppet for Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez came true.
And with big fights over eliminating the filibuster, packing the Supreme Court, and adding Washington, D.C. as a state coming up, few Americans have any faith that Biden can stand up to the extreme left in his party that is pushing these measures to turn America into a one-party authoritarian state like Communist China.
