Joe Biden’s administration just suffered another setback.
Biden and his allies made this issue their top priority.
And Joe Biden was blindsided by a big defeat that left Democrats fuming.
Biden and Democrats in Congress hoped to show open borders activists that amnesty for illegal aliens was at the top of their priority list by making a bill to bestow citizenship and voting rights on tens of millions of illegal aliens with the first bill introduced in Congress.
In the last week, Democrats rammed through legislation to create a permanent Democrat majority by imposing vote-by-mail on all 50 states and dissolving voter ID laws, creating a gun registration database and putting 59 million Americans that work as independent contractors out of a job through the House of Representatives.
But so far there has been no action on amnesty.
That is for a very good reason.
Illinois Senator Dick Durbin—the number two Democrat in the Senate—admitted in an interview with CNN that Democrats didn’t have the votes to pass amnesty.
“I don’t see a means for reaching that,” Durbin explained to CNN. “I want it. I think we are much more likely to deal with discreet elements.”
But the amnesty bill is facing bigger hurdles than the fact that the legislation has nowhere near 60 votes in the Senate to break a filibuster.
Durbin said Nancy Pelosi does not have enough Democrats in the House on board to pass the bill through the lower chamber.
“I think Speaker Pelosi has discovered that she doesn’t have support for the comprehensive bill in the House,” Durbin added. “And it indicates where it is in the Senate as well.”
Democrats are worried about the amnesty bill’s connection to the growing crisis at the border which many party strategists on both sides think is the biggest threat to the Democrats’ majorities next fall.
Republicans hoped to drive home the point that Biden caused the border crisis.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy led a delegation of Republicans to the border to highlight Biden’s failure.
“I came down here because I heard of the crisis. It’s more than a crisis. This is a human heartbreak. The sad part about all this is it didn’t have to happen,” McCarthy continued. “There’s no other way to [call] it than a Biden Border crisis.”
There is ample evidence to back up McCarthy’s claim that the only way to describe the situation at the border is as a crisis.
A migrant facility in Texas sits at 729 percent capacity.
The Border Patrol is apprehending illegal aliens at the border in levels not seen since George W. Bush was President.
Florida Republican Congressman Carlos Gimenez laid the blame for this disaster squarely at the feet of Joe Biden explaining that Biden’s open borders policies and rhetoric created a gigantic magnet to attract illegal aliens to try and enter America.
“I spoke to a family … that told me it took them 22 days to come from Honduras,” Gimenez stated. “They were incentivized by the [Biden Administration] rhetoric, by the change of policy … [They said] it was a harrowing trip. Many of them don’t make it.”
Under the backdrop of this catastrophe at the southern border it is not surprising that Democrats don’t want anything to do with Joe Biden’s blanket amnesty bill.
