Democrats are looking ahead to the 2022 midterms trying to find a way to cling to their narrow majorities.
But all hell is breaking loose.
Joe Biden heard three words that left him speechless.
Black Lives Matter rioters began ransacking Brooklyn Center, Minnesota after a police officer accidentally shot Daunte Wright by mistakenly drawing her firearm when the officer meant to reach for her taser after Wright resisted arrest and had an outstanding warrant for weapons charges.
“Squad” member Rashida Tlaib fired off a tweet that could define the Democrats’ response to this tragedy and the party overall in 2022 by declaring that Tlaib believed the solution was “no more police” and “no more incarceration.”
“It wasn’t an accident. Policing in our country is inherently & intentionally racist. Daunte Wright was met with aggression & violence. I am done with those who condone government funded murder. No more policing, incarceration, and militarization. It can’t be reformed,” Tlaib wrote.
In 2020, “Squad” members Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib and Ayanna Pressley set the Democrats up for a disappointing election in the House of Representatives by pushing “defund the police” to the forefront of the Democrat messaging following the death of George Floyd.
Democrats lost 15 seats in the House when Nancy Pelosi and other so-called “experts” predicted the Democrats would gain 15 to 20 seats.
After the election it became clear that the “defund the police” message frightened voters in both suburban and urban districts.
This would not be the first time Pelosi and the “Squad” butted heads.
In Susan Page’s book “Madam Speaker: Nancy Pelosi and the Lessons of Power,”Pelosi ripped into Tlaib and her fellow “Squad” members taunting them saying,“You’re not a one-person show. This is the Congress of the United States.”
“Defund the police” sounds downright moderate compared to Tlaib’s demand that police should not exist and no one should ever go to jail.
Last summer Joe Biden was slow to condemn the Black Lives Matter and antifa riots.
Biden condemned the rioting in Brooklyn Center in hopes of avoiding a repeat of the Democrats’ losses in the House of Representatives that the party suffered last November.
“[I] want to make it clear again: there is absolutely no justification — none — for looting. No justification for violence,” Biden stated.
Biden’s effort was quickly lost in the shuffle of Tlaib’s call to eliminate police and jails.
Republicans only need to flip five seats to win back a majority in the House.
The GOP needs to net a gain of just one seat in the Senate to take back control of the chamber.
And Rashida Tlaib may have just set the table for another cycle of Democrat losses with her call to abolish the police.
