Democrats had an ace up their sleeve in the 2022 elections.
This is bad news for Republicans.
And Joe Biden got caught in an illegal scheme to count votes that has Pelosi smiling.
When the reapportionment numbers came out for the 2020 Census, many Republicans as well as election forecasters were stunned.
Most observers expected the once-every-decade population count to show significant movement from blue states to red states.
Before the Census Bureau and U.S. Department of Commerce released the figures, there were predictions that red states where Republicans controlled the redistricting process would net a gain of around ten seats.
Instead the number came in at three.
That was significant because Republicans only needed to net a gain of five seats to win control of the House of Representatives.
Former Trump advisor Stephen Moore raised alarm bells about the surprising results of the Census in a column for Townhall where he noted the oddity of the Biden administration revising the December population estimates to add 2.5 million Americans to the totals in blue states while revising down the count in red states by 500,000.
“Most all of the revisions to the original estimates have moved in one direction: Population gains were added to blue states, and population losses were subtracted from red states. The December revisions in population estimates under the Biden Census Bureau added some 2.5 million blue-state residents and subtracted more than 500,000 red-state residents. These population estimates determine how many electoral votes each state receives for presidential elections and the number of congressional seats in each state,” Moore wrote.
Moore explained that a population shift of three million Americans could amount to four seats moving from Republican-run states to those controlled by the Democrats.
“Remember, the House of Representatives is razor-thin today, with the Democrats sporting just a six-seat majority with five seats currently vacant. So, a switch in a handful of seats in 2022 elections could flip the House and take the gavel away from current Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats. A shift of 3 million in population is the equivalent of four seats moving from Republican to Democrat,” Moore added.
Moore broke down how these revised population estimates saved blue states like New York, Illinois and Rhode Island from losing seats.
“The original projections for the Census reapportionment had New York losing two seats, Rhode Island losing a seat and Illinois perhaps losing two seats. Instead, New York and Illinois only lost one seat, and Rhode Island lost no seats. Meanwhile, Texas was expected to gain three seats, Florida two seats and Arizona one seat. Instead, Texas gained only two seats, Florida only one and Arizona none,” Moore continued.
Congressional Republicans called out the Biden administration for political interference in the Census, and for counting illegal aliens in the population estimates to inflate the totals in blue states.
“Several liberal states with sanctuary policies may have lost more congressional seats if illegal immigrants had not been included in the apportionment base,” the Republicans’ letter read.
And the creeping suspicion among many Republicans is that the Biden administration manipulated the Census count to boost Nancy Pelosi’s chances of holding onto her position as Speaker of the House.
