Press secretary Jen Psaki’s been one of Joe Biden’s most high-profile and loyal aides.
But now Psaki is planning to head for the exits.
And Jen Psaki made a retirement announcement that means one bad thing is about to happen.
Jen Psaki’s had one of the most disastrous tenures as White House press secretary anyone can remember.
Even though her admirers in the White House press corps rarely ask difficult questions,Psaki is best known for having to “circle back” to avoid revealing any inconvenient truths about the Biden administration’s many failures in public.
Psaki’s time behind the podium is coming to an end.
In an interview with former Obama chief strategist David Axelrod on his “Axe Files” podcast, Psaki announced that within a year she would leave the administration.
“I think it’s going to be time for somebody else to have this job in a year from now or about a year from now,” Psaki announced.
Psaki stated her reason for leaving was wanting to spend time with her three and five-year-old children.
“I don’t want to miss time with them,” Psaki said of her two children. “I don’t want to miss moments. I don’t want to miss things, and I’m very mindful of that as well.”
“It’s a great job,” Psaki added. “It will be hard, but I also never thought I’d be here, and I also love my kids a lot.”
Psaki claimed when the administration first came together her intention was always to only serve as press secretary for a finite period of time.
“When I talked to the inner circle of the Biden orbit, we talked about coming in and doing this job for a year, which was quite appealing to me for many reasons,” Psaki continued.
Psaki stated that she achieved her goal of “lowering the temperature” in the relationship with the press from when Donald Trump was President.
“One: What a moment in history, right, to be a part of,” Psaki exclaimed. “It’s always true in the White House, but I think following Trump, especially if you can take the temperature down a little bit, that’s a cool thing to be a part of.”
Of course, this was achieved because of a docile press corps that rooted for Joe Biden and is invested in his success.
Virtually all of the White House press corps works on behalf of the administration instead of asking difficult questions to hold power to account.
Psaki leaving by spring 2022 will also allow her to skip out on having to answer about the ramifications of the midterm elections where it is widely expected that the Democrats will lose the House of Representatives and maybe also the Senate.
By skipping out before November, Psaki won’t have to answer any questions about why Biden’s agenda led to an electoral disaster for Democrats.
