Joe Biden’s weaponized government struck again.
This one came out of the blue.
Donald Trump learned some very bad news about these criminal charges.
In 2021, The New York Times published a story based on 18 years’ worth of Donald Trump’s tax returns.
All the story did was confirm that Trump followed the law and took tax deductions available to him.
That same year ProPublica published a story based on thousands of tax returns of the richest citizens in America.
This came at a time when Joe Biden was pushing a new scheme to raise taxes and these stories fit a narrative the left wanted to tell.
However, it is a crime to leak a private citizen’s tax returns.
And Americans wondered who illegally leaked Trump’s and the thousands of other tax returns to the media.
The answer to that question finally arrived and it was IRS contractor Charles Littlejohn.
A press release from the Department of Justice revealed that federal authorities arrested Littlejohn on a single count of illegally leaking thousands of tax returns as well as those belonging to Donald Trump.
“According to court documents, Charles Littlejohn, 38, of Washington, D.C., while working at the IRS as a government contractor, stole tax return information associated with a high-ranking government official (Public Official A) and disclosed it to a news organization (News Organization 1). Littlejohn also stole tax return information for thousands of the nation’s wealthiest individuals, and disclosed this tax return information to another news organization (News Organization 2),” the Justice Department press release stated.
“Any disclosure of taxpayer information is unacceptable,” IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel claimed.
“The IRS has put in place new protocols and protections that tightened security, and our aggressive work in this critical area continues in order to protect the tax and financial information of taxpayers,” Werfel added.
The Justice Department is charging Trump supporters who weren’t even in D.C. on January 6 with seditious conspiracy and winning 22-year prison sentences.
But in this case Littlejohn faces just a single count of unauthorized disclosure of tax returns and return information.
If convicted Littlejohn faces a maximum of five years in prison.
A weaponized government does more than just harass and persecute its political opponents.
It can also protect its allies as best as it can.
The Justice Department and the FBI demonstrated this with the years-long effort to cover up the criminal investigation into Hunter Biden and divert any lines of inquiry into Joe Biden.
And here the Biden Justice Department routinely throws the book at Trump supporters while letting off someone whose alleged criminal behavior violated Donald Trump’s rights with the lightest punishment possible.
