Americans were heartbroken by the images of Notre Dame Cathedral on fire.
But for Ilhan Omar, this tragedy provided a backdrop to create just another crisis.
That’s because Omar insulted every Christian with this awful comment about Notre Dame burning down.
Notre Dame is one of the greatest symbols of Christianity and Western civilization.
It has stood for over 850 years as a monument to faith, charity, and the devotion that defines Christendom.
But rather than recognize the religious and cultural significance of the historic cathedral facing complete and utter destruction, Omar managed to offend not only every Christian around the world, but also nonbelievers who appreciate the history and tradition Notre Dame represents.
Omar compared Notre Dame as being like a wing of an art gallery in a tweet that attracted scorn from all corners.
Omar tweeted, “Art and architecture have a unique ability to help us connect across our differences and bring people together in important ways. Thinking of the people of Paris and praying for every first responder trying to save this wonder.”
This is not the first time Omar offended millions of people by completely missing the mark with insensitive comments about tragedy.
She’s faced a firestorm of criticism for her comments treating the 9/11 terrorist attacks as some minor event.
And just when Democrats thought she might be on the other side of that controversy, Omar kicks up a new hornet’s nest by firing off an insensitive tweet about the fire at Notre Dame.
As these controversies pile up, questions about Omar’s future mount.
Donald Trump plans to run for re-election by framing Omar – and fellow socialist radical Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez – as the face of the Democrat Party.
The President laid the groundwork for that strategy in a tweet calling Omar Nancy Pelosi’s boss.
President Trump tweeted, “Before Nancy, who has lost all control of Congress and is getting nothing done, decides to defend her leader, Rep. Omar, she should look at the anti-Semitic, anti-Israel and ungrateful U.S. HATE statements Omar has made. She is out of control, except for her control of Nancy!”
But Democrats sidelining Omar is easier said than done.
In the fundraising period that ended on March 31st, Omar raised $832,000.
That is an unheard of haul for a Congresswoman not facing a competitive race.
Omar’s haul was powered by small donors – donors contributing less than $200 – which means the Democrat Party base is behind her.
Any attempt to muzzle Omar – or recruit a primary challenger to oust her – will be met by fearsome grassroots resistance.
Democrats may be forced to sit back and watch helplessly as Donald Trump elevates the 2020 election as a referendum on the choice between his “Make America Great Again” agenda or Omar’s offensive radicalism.
