Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez crossed a major line.
And Ocasio-Cortez quickly found out she bit off way more than she can chew.
That became clear when a Green Beret hero shut down Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez with this message about war.
The Democrats’ current messaging strategy centers on trying to create an independent commission to produce a “bipartisan” report trashing Donald Trump and congressional Republicans for objecting to the results of the 2020 election which the report will claim caused the events at the Capitol.
Democrats look to play up the theme of the GOP as the party of “sedition and insurrection” as the centerpiece of their communications next year.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez amplified this message during a podcast interview when the socialist Congresswoman compared being in the Capitol on January 6 to having “served in war.”
Those comments set off Florida Congressman Michael Waltz who served 24 years in the military including several tours in combat as a Green Beret where Waltz’s bravery won him four Bronze Star medals.
Waltz blasted Ocasio-Cortez for insulting anyone that served in combat.
“January 6 was a terrible day for sure and those involved will be brought to justice but this is a sad and ignorant comparison to make…and a disservice to those who actually served,” Waltz posted on social media.
Waltz tore into Ocasio-Cortez for comparing the January 6 episode to a war setting explaining that Ocasio-Cortez never watched her friends die in battle or faced shots fired in anger.
“AOC doesn’t know what it’s like to come under attack by machine gun fire, mortars or RPGs. She hasn’t seen the horror of roadside IED explosions on bystanders & children,” Waltz continued, stating that “she hasn’t lost fellow soldiers on the battlefield or seen friends permanently disfigured by Taliban attacks.”
“Don’t use false equivalencies to make a point. Especially as it relates to war,” Waltz concluded.
Republicans appear unlikely to provide the votes in the Senate to create a January 6 commission.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell told Republicans the entire committee was a political sham designed to cripple Republicans’ electoral prospects next November.
“So what would [the Jan. 6] report be about? I think that’s a part of this recommendation by the Democrats, is that they would like to continue to debate things that occurred in the past. They’d like to continue to litigate the former president into the future. We think, the American people, going forward, and in the fall of ‘22, ought to focus on what this administration is doing to the country. And what the clear choice is that we have made to oppose most of these initiatives. So, I think this is a purely political exercise and adds nothing to the sum total of information. It doesn’t allow anyone to get away with anything. All of the aspects of it are being dealt with in one way or another, already,” Punchbowl News reported McConnell telling GOP senators during a caucus lunch.
The dead giveaway to many Republicans was Nancy Pelosi agreeing to split the commission with both Democrats and Republicans appointing five members, and allowing the minority input on any subpoenas.
Pelosi never budges an inch in negotiations and Pelosi appearing to cave to GOP demands made it clear that the end game for Pelosi was just getting Republicans to vote for this commission no matter what form it eventually took.
Democrats can count votes and see their dreams of Republicans voting to create a commission that McConnell explained will produce the template for the left’s attack ads in 2022 circling the drain.
That’s why critics believe Democrats like Ocasio-Cortez are upping the ante on their rhetoric surrounding January 6 as a last-ditch effort to pressure Republicans to support the creating of this commission.
