Hillary Clinton has a way of making everything worse for the Democrats.
That is exactly what just happened.
And every Democrat wishes Hillary Clinton did not pick this fight with the Supreme Court.
In an op-ed for Democracy Docket,Hillary Clinton resurrected many of the falsehoods Democrats spread about the election integrity bills states like Georgia passed being racist.
“Each of these proposals disproportionately prevents people of color from casting their ballots, and each is egregious in its own right,” Clinton wrote.
Clinton even recycled the debunked claim that election integrity laws are like Jim Crow stating that these bills are a “concerted attempt to destabilize the democratic process and delegitimize our multi-racial democracy” and contended that the pieces of legislation are “no different from the Jim Crow past.”
The two-time failed presidential candidate then pivoted to lying about the Supreme Court.
Clinton cited the six-justice majority holding up Arizona bans on voting at the wrong precinct and ballot harvesting as evidence the court was hostile to the Voting Rights Act.
“Much of the blame for this backsliding rests with the Supreme Court, which, thanks to the election of President Trump, is even more hostile to voting rights today than it was when it gutted a crucial provision of the Voting Rights Act in 2013. But the problem is more insidious,” Clinton added.
But even Joe Biden’s own Justice Department didn’t argue that the Arizona laws in question violated Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act.
Clinton accused the same Supreme Court that upheld Obamacare and allows governments to discriminate against the free exercise of religion as being “more committed to appeasing powerful special interests than to championing the fundamental rights of the American people.”
Finally, Clinton falsely claimed the state election integrity bills and the accompanying Supreme Court decisions were all an outgrowth of Donald Trump’s white supremacy.
“The emboldening of white supremacists and conspiracy theorists during Trump’s campaign and time in the White House along with the international movement against liberal democracy have exacerbated this perfect storm,” Clinton continued.
Clinton then claimed that anyone that questioned the outcome of an election directly attacked democracy.
“When the people make their voices heard in an election, we should respect the results. These aren’t partisan statements; they’re attributes of a functioning democracy,” Clinton concluded.
That would be news to Donald Trump because as recently as 2019, Hillary Clinton claimed Donald Trump was an illegitimate president that teamed with Vladimir Putin to steal the election.
“No, it doesn’t kill me because he knows he’s an illegitimate president,” Clinton declared in an interview. “I believe he understands that the many varying tactics they used, from voter suppression and voter purging to hacking to the false stories — he knows that — there were just a bunch of different reasons why the election turned out like it did.”
