Donald Trump pushed Kevin McCarthy over the top in the election for speaker of the House.
But McCarthy did not show much gratitude.
And Donald Trump will be furious when he finds out how Kevin McCarthy just betrayed him.
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer told CNN host Jake Tapper that his committee would investigate Joe Biden for stealing classified documents six years ago after his term as vice president ended.
Tapper asked Comer if the committee would also investigate Donald Trump over the allegations Trump kept documents at Mar-a-Lago.
Comer brushed off that “gotcha” question noting no politician in American history had ever been investigated more than Trump and he wasn’t going to waste time on another witch hunt.
Reporters pressed Speaker McCarthy on the same question.
Initially, McCarthy held his ground and noted the double standard at play in the two cases.
Biden’s FBI raided Donald Trump’s home and even ransacked Melania Trump’s closet looking for classified documents.
In Biden’s case, the Department of Justice treated Biden with kid gloves, even allowing Biden’s lawyers to issue false statements about recovering all of the stolen classified documents.
“With respect to investigating President Trump, there have been so many investigations of President Trump. I don’t feel like we need to spend a whole lot of time investigating President Trump because the Democrats have done that for the past six years,” McCarthy began.
McCarthy then said all he wanted to see was fairness from the justice system.
“Look, I see from an aspect of how it’s treated. And the one thing you always want is fair justice in America,” McCarthy added.
McCarthy also explained that the Archives knew President Trump kept documents at Mar-a-Lago as evidence by them asking Trump to add a secure lock to the room where Trump stored the documents.
Trump was also president and had the power to declassify documents.
“So let’s just put it on its premise that the past president, President Trump, had documents that he was his lawyers were talking with, the archives knew they were there. They actually asked to put another lock on. So it was behind lock at any time, they could have walked in and grabbed it. No, they had the FBI come and raid Mar-a-Lago,” McCarthy added.
But then McCarthy contradicted Comer by bizarrely promising to investigate Trump for taking classified documents.
“So we will look into both situations,” McCarthy added.
When Democrats controlled Congress, they focused all their investigations on Trump and ignored all of Joe Biden’s corruption and potential crimes.
Republicans planned to provide the oversight of Joe Biden that Democrats avoided.
But Kevin McCarthy’s careless comment threw Republicans off message.
