Florida Governor Ron DeSantis drew his sharpest line of attack on Donald Trump yet.
But Trump did not back down.
And Ron DeSantis dropped the hammer on Donald Trump, and no one could believe what Trump did next.
DeSantis’s feud with Disney is the latest flashpoint in the presidential campaign.
Disney tried to kill a popular piece of legislation that stopped teachers from brainwashing students in grades K-3 into transgenderism with sexually inappropriate lesson plans.
DeSantis won the admiration of conservatives by fighting back against a woke corporation by signing legislation stripping Disney of its special governing privileges in the Reedy Creek District.
The two sides are now locked in a legal battle that neither can afford to lose.
At first, Donald Trump offered a strange comment on the situation that did not mention Disney’s support for woke transgender indoctrination of children.
Instead, Trump’s take focused on the feud between Disney and Florida hurting the state economically.
“Disney’s next move will be the announcement that no more money will be invested in Florida because of the Governor,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “In fact, they could even announce a slow withdrawal or sale of certain properties, or the whole thing. Watch! That would be a killer. In the meantime, this is all so unnecessary, a political STUNT!”
That post provided fodder for DeSantis to attack Trump during an interview on Fox News.
“I mean, you know, they had mentioned there may be some differences with me and Donald Trump. And I think that those differences redound to my benefit in a place like Iowa. I mean, for example, you know, he’s taken the side of Disney in our fight down here in Florida. I’m standing for parents, I’m standing for children. And I think a multibillion dollar company that sexualizes children is not consistent with the values of Florida or the values of a place like Iowa,” DeSantis declared.
“He’s taken the side of Disney,” DeSantis added, slamming Disney as “a multibillion-dollar company that sexualizes children.”
Trump happened to watch the DeSantis interview and responded in real time by blasting DeSantis for mischaracterizing his position.
In a post on Truth Social Trump took on DeSantis and Fox News for ignoring Trump’s subsequent post about Disney where the 45th president blasted the company’s woke turn as “disgusting.”
“Ron DeSanctimonious just stated, without correction on Fox & Friends, that I was ‘backing’ Disney. Wrong! Fox should have read my posted TRUTH on Disney, but that’s not the game they play. Also, in the polls, I am beating Biden by a lot, ‘Rob’ isn’t! Also, WAY UP ON RON. Check out the DeSanctus speech at the Trump Rally I gave to get him elected. Not easy! p.s. I got 1.2 Million more votes in Florida than Ron, a little reported fact!” Trump wrote.
The later post by Trump made it clear he was not siding with Disney.
“Disney has become a Woke and Disgusting shadow of its former self, with people actually hating it. Must go back to what it once was, or the ‘market’ will do irreparable damage. This all happened during the Governorship of ‘Rob’ DeSanctimonious. Instead of complaining now, for publicity reasons only, he should have stopped it long ago. Would have been easy to do – Still is!” Trump posted.
DeSantis and Trump both took the gloves off.
There is no perceived misstep too small for the other to launch an attack over.
But what this episode made clear is that the Trump era changed the GOP where the party base will no longer tolerate politicians who bow to woke corporations and hand out favors and giveaways to companies that actively express their hatred for the party’s voters and values.
