Polls show Joe Biden ahead of Donald Trump in the presidential race.
But Donald Trump just pulled off a game-changing announcement that left Democrats speechless.
And Donald Trump cut this behind the scenes deal that could seal victory in November.
The presidential election could come down to the Midwest.
Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin are once again set to play a starring role.
Joe Biden thought he had a leg up in these crucial battlegrounds as the Big Ten Conference announced in early August that the league was canceling football over concerns surrounding a heart condition which athletes that test positive for the coronavirus may develop.
The Biden campaign ran ads featuring empty stadiums telling voters in the Midwest that the Big Ten canceling football was another sign Donald Trump bungled the coronavirus response.
But immediately after the cancelation announcement, the windsbegan to shift as the backlash grew.
The Penn State doctor who conducted research on the myocarditis heart condition said his work was misconstrued.
Attorneys General in Ohio and Nebraska threatened to sue.
And high-profile coaches at Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State protested the decisions.
President Trump even got involved calling Big Ten Commissioner Kevin Warren to offer the government’s help in providing rapid point of care testing to help get the league back on the field.
It all paid off when the Big Ten presidents realized their mistake and voted to resume the season the weekend of October 23rd.
“Great news today. Over the past month, I could sense the anticipation from our players and coaches, and I’m thrilled on their behalf that they will have a chance to play a 2020 season. Stay positive. Test negative. Let’s play football,” Michigan Coach Jim Harbaugh declared.
President Trump celebrated the news on social media.
“Great News: BIG TEN FOOTBALL IS BACK. All teams to participate. Thank you to the players, coaches, parents, and all school representatives. Have a FANTASTIC SEASON! It is my great honor to have helped!!!” the President exclaimed.
Key figures in the league such as Wisconsin Athletic Director Barry Alvarez praised President Trump and credited him with helping to push the Big Ten to resume their season.
“He talked to the commissioner,” Alvarez stated. “One of the things he did was make saliva tests available and show how returning to football in the Big Ten was important to him. How much of a factor he was, I think he drew attention to Big Ten football and had a solution.”
Showing Americans that the President has a plan to get the country back to normal life will be a key to his re-election campaign.
The President can offer his leadership in getting the Big Ten back to playing football as tangible evidence of his ability to achieve this goal.
