Donald Trump and many of his supporters were waiting for this news.
They feared it may never come.
Devin Nunes made one promise that is music to Donald Trump’s ears.
Donald Trump – as well as a large segment of his base – continually ask “where’s John Durham?”
Durham is the United States attorney from Connecticut that former Attorney General William Barr tasked with investigating the origins of the Russian collusion hoax.
In the fall of 2019,The New York Times reported that Durham was now conducting a criminal investigation, and Trump hoped that Deep State figures such as former CIA Director John Brennan, former FBI Director James Comey, former FBI agent Peter Strzok, and others would finally face accountability for using the fake Christopher Steele-Russia dossier – that claimed the Trump campaign conducted a clandestine plot with Russian intelligence to leak hacked emails to steal the 2016 election – to spy on the Trump campaign.
The FBI used the Steele dossier as the basis for a FISA warrant application to spy on former Trump campaign aide Carter Page even though Comey knew the dossier was unverified, which is a violation of protocol.
But Durham’s been silent with no news of indictments or even that a report was forthcoming.
Even Trump lost hope.
However, in a podcast interview with investigative journalist Sara Carter, House Intelligence Committee ranking member Devin Nunes expressed his belief that Durham would soon release a report.
Nunes explained that he was an expert on the matter by virtue of the investigation he ran during the time Nunes served as the Intelligence Committee chairman.
“As you know, the Republican conference has asked me to investigate this,” Nunes explained. “You know, I’d like to get back to the days when I was just dealing with foreign threats, and looking at what’s happening in Cuba, looking at what Putin’s doing, looking at what the Chinese are doing. But I’m always getting rolled back into this because the Democrats in this country have weaponized our institutions over the last five, six years.”
Nunes produced a memo detailing the flaws in the Steele dossier, and exposing the FBI’s attempt to spy on Trump using false information.
The corporate press and Democrats mocked Nunes’ memo only to have to eat their words when Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz produced a report detailing 17 errors and omissions in the FBI’s FISA warrant to spy on Page.
Carter expressed the skepticism many felt towards the supposed “Durham report.”
“Where’s John Durham? What happened to William Barr? What about the report,” Carter said to Nunes.“Believe me, when I tell you I’m almost just as jaded as the rest of the American public when it comes to the Justice Department’s failure to hold those senior Obama officials accountable.
“But Nunes told me that not only would Durham soon deliver his report, but that Durham would also file criminal charges,” Carter stated.
Nunes explained that he is expecting the report – which may be more narrow than Trump and his voters would like – but that Nunes and his committee also filed 14 criminal referrals with the DOJ and that Nunes believes indictments would flow from them.
“I just have to have faith ultimately, that there’s that, you know, there was a special counsel created, Durham does have the power, we’re fully expecting him to deliver the report,” Nunes declared. “It may not be as broad as we want it to be. But look, there are some major perpetrators. I think, as you and everybody else know, we’ve made over 14 criminal referrals. That doesn’t mean 14 individuals, that means 14 different criminal referrals involving multiple individuals… And this is one of the challenges.”
