Democrats were already unhappy with Joe Biden and do not want him to run for re-election in 2024.
Now the dam is fully breaking.
And that’s because Joe Biden hit Democrats with a nasty surprise that left them red with rage.
Joe Biden stunned Democrats by announcing he would sign a resolution of disapproval overriding the Washington, D.C. City Council’s move to lower criminal penalties for violent crimes including carjacking.
“I support D.C. Statehood and home-rule,” Biden posted on social media, “but I don’t support some of the changes D.C. Council put forward over the Mayor’s objections — such as lowering penalties for carjackings. If the Senate votes to overturn what D.C. Council did — I’ll sign it.”
Crime led to the GOP winning a majority in the House of Representatives as Republicans flipped four seats in New York on the back of attacks on Democrats turning New York City into a crime-ridden hellscape.
Biden and Senate Democrats — who are facing a brutal 2024 map — want to take crime off the table as an issue by giving the party a talking point.
However, Biden’s decision to sign the GOP-sponsored resolution came after Biden signaled that he would veto the measure.
That led to 172 Democrats in the House of Representatives walking the plank and voting against the resolution of disapproval.
Democrats were furious that Joe Biden let them take a tough vote that creates ready-made campaign ads before reversing course.
“The White House f—– this up royally,” one House Democrat complained to The Hill.
That same Democrat called Joe Biden’s actions “amateur hour” for leaving vulnerable members of his party hung out to dry.
“So a lot of us who are allies voted no in order to support what the White House wanted. And now we are being hung out to dry,” the House Democrat exclaimed. “F—— AMATEUR HOUR. HEADS SHOULD ROLL OVER AT THE WHITE HOUSE OVER THIS.”
Biden also took fire from the left as Biden agreeing to override the city council’s soft-on-crime policies undercut the argument for making D.C. the 51st state.
“Defending those without power matters — past pledges of support for DC Statehood couldn’t ring more hollow,” Councilmember Charles Allen declared. “It’s a reminder that until the nearly 700,000 residents of DC have full statehood & autonomy, we will be seen & treated as a colony, even by those who purport to support us.”
“It’s disappointing for me and anybody who believes in home rule, honestly. I’m a former mayor of a city of 70,000 and I wouldn’t want the federal government coming in and telling me what city ordinances to pass. … So I think it’s disappointing in that context,” Texas Democrat Congressman Pete Aguilar told Punchbowl News.
Joe Biden signing this resolution handed the GOP Congress a significant legislative victory, put members of his own party on the wrong side of a popular issue with their “no” vote, and destroyed the argument for Democrats to make D.C. the 51st state which ensures two new permanent Democrat Senate seats.
That’s a trifecta of political malpractice.
