Nancy Pelosi got some bad news.
The speaker of the House is on the verge of a humiliating defeat.
And that’s because Democrats just told Nancy Pelosi something that Pelosi never heard before in her life.
Democrats are struggling to devise a path to passing Joe Biden’s multi-trillion-dollar spending scheme to impose the Green New Deal and turn America into a socialist nation.
That plan consists of two bills – a 1.2-trillion-dollar so-called “infrastructure” bill and a 3.5-trillion-dollar Bernie Sanders-written budget.
But moderate Democrats that represent swing districts got cold feet about the Bernie Sanders budget after the Senate passed the 1.2-trillion-dollar so-called “infrastructure” bill.
These Democrats see Joe Biden’s poll numbers dropping and panicked about the prospect of Republicans rerunning the successful attacks from 2020 blasting Democrats as the party of socialism.
That’s why nine swing district Democrats sent a letter to Nancy Pelosi saying they will oppose the 3.5-trillion-dollar socialist spending bill unless Pelosi immediately holds a vote on the so-called “infrastructure” bill.
Pelosi can only afford to lose three votes, so the moderates have enough votes to sink the Bernie Sanders budget.
However, the socialists in the House – led by the “Squad” – made it clear they will vote against the so-called “infrastructure” bill unless Pelosi links it to the 3.5-trillion-dollar Bernie Sanders budget.
Pelosi tried to keep the conference unified by proposing to put forth a rule that advances both bills at the same time.
But the moderates informed Pelosi that was unacceptable.
NBC News reports:
Pelosi suggested a way out Sunday in a letter to colleagues: The Rules Committee could set up a process to “advance” both measures at the same time. Her deputy chief of staff, Drew Hammill, said her position hasn’t changed: The House won’t vote on final passage of the infrastructure bill until the Senate passes the other spending bill, a process that could still take weeks.
But the nine moderates appeared to reject that approach, saying in a joint statement Sunday evening that they appreciated her offer but that their “view remains consistent” on passing infrastructure first.
The group of Democrats, led by Josh Gottheimer of New Jersey, includes politically vulnerable lawmakers like Carolyn Bourdeaux of Georgia and Jared Golden of Maine.
This leaves Pelosi back at square one.
Pelosi is known to always get her way and moderate Democrats never stood up to her until now.
If Pelosi cannot muscle these two bills through the House of Representatives, Joe Biden’s domestic agenda is finished and his presidency collapses in failure.
Pelosi expected the moderate Democrats to roll over like they have in the past.
But their letter to Pelosi makes it clear that will not be the case.
