Donald Trump continues to hint at a 2024 presidential comeback.
But Trump learned some bad news.
And that’s because Democrats just found this awful way to stop Trump from running for president in 2024.
Democrats thought the second impeachment witch hunt conducted against Donald Trump in the aftermath of the January 6 riot at the Capitol would lead to banning Trump from seeking the presidency again in 2024.
Those hopes went down in flames when enough Republican senators rejected the media and Democrat pressure campaign and acquitted Trump in the impeachment trial.
Now that polls show Donald Trump leading Joe Biden in head-to-head 2024 matchups Democrats desperately searched around for a new way to stop Trump.
Pelosi formed the January 6 kangaroo court to serve as a third impeachment vehicle and to conjure up criminal charges against Trump.
Other liberal activists latched on to a new theory that the 14th Amendment bars Trump from ever running for office again.
According to this notion, a section of the Civil War-era amendment that barred Confederate officers from holding federal office could apply to Trump.
Section Three of the 14th Amendment reads:
No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President… who, having previously taken an oath… shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.
Far-left Harvard Law Professor Laurence Tribe argued this amendment prevented Trump’s name from appearing on the 2024 ballot.
The Hill reports:
According to Tribe, if lawsuits arose over Trump’s eligibility in 2024, the outcome of that litigation would likely hinge on whether a neutral fact-finder setup by Congress had previously determined that Trump’s role in the Jan. 6 attack triggered Section 3 of the 14th Amendment.
Whether a push for Trump’s disqualification under the 14th Amendment gains wider support or more legislative traction may turn on what the Jan. 6 House panel ultimately reveals about his role.
However, few serious scholars actually believe this constitutional amendment actually applies to Trump.
So far, Joe Biden’s highly politicized Justice Department has not filed insurrection or sedition charges against any of the more than 700 individuals arrested for rioting at the Capitol.
Calling the events of January 6 an “insurrection” is a hobby horse for the corporate media because reporters inflate the events of that day to a) make themselves feel like war correspondents whose lives were on the line reporting from the battlefield and b) journalists believe this is the Democrats’ best line of attack in the 2022 midterm.
But even Joe Biden’s own Justice Department has not agreed because federal prosecutors are not charging anyone with sedition.
